Fine, reformat, video cuts out during install

So I am trying to sell my old desktop. I go to reformat the HDD and during the windows install my screen just goes black. I figured it was because i had crossfired cards so I removed one and tried again. Same issue. I have also pulled CMOS battery, tried a disk, a usb, tried both cards, one card different slots etc. etc. I am at a loss. What would cause this to happen? During the windows install it just cuts out and loses signal to the monitor.

I have also tried the DVI and HDMI and still nothing.

Firstly, are you doing a system restore using the built in partition thing, or are you using a Windows disk for the install? If Windows disk, was it downloaded, is 1 of those modded versions?

I've had this happen to me a couple of times, for me it was the monitor, well monitor / graphics cards trying to display a frequency that isn't supported on it.

If you got onboard gfx, install using that, and then install your cards after.

No i am using a full retail copy of windows 7. I tried swapping out the hard drive as well but it didn't help. The mobo doesn't have onboard video as well so I am kind of stuck to using the video cards. Weird because before I reformatted I had no issue running games or anything.

If you got access to another gfx card, as temporary measure to see if that works?

Also it might sound a silly thing, but have you remembered to plug the power cables into gfx card?

Another thing to try is to remove memory from mobo so as you running as little as possible with what you got (1 or 2 GB stick preferably, 4 or 8 if you really have to)

I have tried both of my gpu's and yes I had it plugged in. I tried pulling a stick of RAM out but it didn't work. It begins to expand windows files, sometimes getting as far as 100 percent other times just 10 percent. The video cuts out but the PC is still on. All fans are still spinning everything is still on except it just doesn't show video and it doesn't load windows in the background.

sucks because I literally had the buyer lined up and then this happens right at the very end.

Don't despair, will get it sorted, but I gotta go out for about hr school run for kids lol, will try and help you get it sorted when I get bk if you are about.
