I installed back WinXP Pro, but i have some strange problem. Every file i downloading (like mobo drivers, Adobe7...) i saving on desctop and after, when i trying to open file and install it, computer shows to me log that file is corrupted. Any idea what can i do about this?

Never heard of this before, so my suggestions could be wild! :p

Have you tried sound download locations?

Have you tried a download agent?

Have you tested the hard drive, could it possibly be slightly faulty?

Perhaps a sys file is corrupt, try a re-format?

it could even have something to do with the unpacking program, are they all .zip?

Sounds like a bad install,check hard-drive integrity,format and re-install windows.

I'm trying to change download location at the moment, so i'll see what it goes:)

I haven't tried download agent, is it gona change something?

I haven't tested my hard drive, but it worked fine on WinXP64, so i won't think it's HDD fault.

Yes, perhaps a sys file is corrupt, if there is no another way to fix i'll do format.

Files mostly are .EXE, so there is nothing to do with unpacking program:)

Sorry i'm quite GREEN in all this, so how can i check hard drive integrity:)

I changed download location...and i was able to download some files, but it's still wasn't working properly so i decided to format HDD.

I'm formating HDD at the moment and reinstalling Win:( ... if problem will be the same i'll run memtest. Thanks.

But does the failure in memory really could cause file corruption? I never heard about it!

:@ I was re-installing Windows. Formated HDD fine, but at the end of Windows installation my PC crashed with BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) i restarted PC and tried to install 2nd time, but it crashed again. On BSOD mostly was mentioned HDD (and antivirus program, but HDD was formated, so it was emty and there is nothing to do with antivirus). Could it be i have faulty HDD and that's why i had problems with file corruption before?

BSOD says:

Disable or unistall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or back up utilities. Check your hard drive cofiguration, and check for any update drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

So, is it possible my HDD is corrupted it self? Is there any way to fix it? And generally is there any simple way how to check HDD against any faults?

I'm going MAD

Thanks. I read nvidia's forum... but i think in my case it's not chipset drivers.

Last night i tested my hard drive (Western Digital) with their own test utility Data Life Guard Diagnostic... I ran quick test several times and i got same error after couple seconds all the time, then i ran full test wich showed me that there is some bad sectors on HDD and offered to repair them, i did so. After i ran quick test again, but error was the same "status code=07". I looked at WD home page and this error wasn't looking good. So, to be sure for 100% i send them e-mail with errror log. This morning i got answer: The drive has a predicted imminent SMART failure and should be replaced.

Error explained:

0001 - 0008, 0015SMART ErrorSelf Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (SMART) Error returned during SMART Status/Self Test Command. The drive is defective.Replace Drive

I been trying to get up and run my rig for half month and now i found out that my HDD was faulty from begining :@ rrrrrrrrrrrr

As well i ran MemTest and i got some errors quite soon... I haven't change any setings in BIOS and i hope after i'll set correct timings everything will be O.K. I really don't want find out that my memory is faulty as well:)

But now i need to send my HDD back and wait for new.

Thanks everyone who tried to help me, much appreciate:)

I really hope that file corruption problem will be solved with new hard drive:D

That was third on my suggestion list ;)

RMA's for hard drives don't usually take long at all, good luck with it :)

Yee, i know...but i'm a bit green in all this, so it's took me some time to figur out what's wrong:p

I'm back to business:p I was too impatient to wait for my hard drive RMA... I just went to shop and bought another HDD. Now i'll have 2 HDD (when my faulty will be exchanged).

Back to file corruption... I checked new drive (WD aswell) and there was no errors on this one:) . So my bigest question was, is file corruption problem is solved? I downloaded MOBO driver for DFI NF4 from nVidia's site, nForce4 AMD Edition v6.70 (the same file i was testing before). Again i saved file on desctop... u won't believe. file was corrupted again:@, so it wasn't hard drive's fault.

As before, in this post, was mentioned memory, i ran memtest from http://hcidesign.com/memtest/ and there was an error at 22% (after about 2min). As i was runing my memory at factory setings 200MHz, but rated frequency is 275MHz (550 effective), i went to BIOS and changed memory frequency to 275MHz. After i ran MemTest again, this time 20min 200% no errors. I downloaded DFI driver again, this time everything was fine, no sign of corruption:p .

I wasn't sure is there anything to do with memory, but looks like if you runing memory with lower frequency as rated it's can cause file corruption.

I still need to do longer tests to see if everything is O.K. for 100%. But so far it's step forward, anyway.
