Fastest ever CPU Cooler change?

Finally, after many people telling me to get an aftermarket cooler, and after a month it finally came!

Well.

It took me nearly 6 hours to install it!!

At first I accidentally took out the whole CPU socket holder thing..

Then it took me many hours to realize how to -snip- put it back, and put it like it's supposed to be put. It took me almost an hour to realize how to put the thing that tightens the holder back. Then it took me 15 minutes to get the nerves to push it down all the way (Thought it would crush my cpu).

I put too much thermal paste, it came all over the place.

Then I put the goddamn heatsink wrong way :DD

It was facing the top, I wanted it to aim at the back. I turned it the right way, and thermal paste went everywhere rofl.

I finally got it working, at first the pc didn't start, but that's because I put a wire into a wrong place.

Now it's standing there on a chair with the side open.

Now I'm listening to music, two mozilla tabs open and cpu-z.

The settings are quite fucked up, because the frequency keeps jumping from 3.3ghz to 3.6 ghz

Need to configure those right, that's propably because it installed some drivers after I put it on.

The temperatures are now at 33 - 35c. Don't know if that's well for semi-idling. I still need to put the side panel on (If it fits, not really alot of space left.)

Other info: I've never before disassembled a pc (took off off the motherboard and everything connected to it), and then assembled it back.

I5 2500k.

2x Gtx 560 Ti.

Yeah.. Fun. I was screaming almost as loud as I could. I roamed around the house looking for something to punch. I had _lots_ of fun.

Here's a pic. Quite large cooler, alot bigger than I expected. Time to see if it performs as well as it should ( I -snip- up the thermal paste)

EDIT: Fabulous!

Optimus Prime has been running for 5 minutes, temperatures are between 54 - 62!

Clocks : 4.0 Ghz with 1.280 Core voltage.

With the stock cooler I'd be at 80 now. I'm loving it!

Time to secure the wires (Startup took a second to realize that it actually had to start up, lol).

And then I'll bang to 4.5, and make my way towards 4.8!

Oh dear god. Jumped straight into 1.42 and 4.8Ghz. Fans are going crazy at 100%, cpu 1500rpm. Heats around 62 - 75 in a few minutes. Should propably drop. Definitely will.

1.42 volts is way to much. drop it down to 4.5ghz and 1.35 volts ish, you wont see much performance gain from it

unless your benching

Savage, I dropped it to 4,5 and 1.32V.

Edit: Unstable >.> I didn't want to bump the voltage up (atleast not atm), so I dropped it to 4.3..

Lol this feels so wrong, I ran 4.5 with the stock cooler for a while, semi-stable.

its all good mate

was wondering what you were on about

think i got my 2500k about 200mhz faster before temps got to high on stock cooler lmao, was in low 70's at 3.5 on 1.25

Heh. I think that I would maybe hit 70 degrees even with my Hyper 212 Evo, since I fucked up with the thermal paste. Put too much, then I put the cooler the wrong way, I turned it around and just spreaded the thermal paste everywhere..

Running Prime now..

4.1Ghz @ 1.36 = I know that the voltage is way too high, but it kept being unstable, and I just kept dropping the multiplier..

After 4 minutes the highest temperature is 70 degrees.

The temperatures were around 59 - 67 degrees otherwise.

I'm sure that if I would have put the thermal paste right, and not fucked around with the wrong position, this would cool alot more effenciently.

One last question = What voltage should I put for a 4.1Ghz Oc?

And.. I just flipped the rear fan from Medium to High to help the air flow out more easily, should be cooler right?

Now it's just really loud.. (Antec 900 case)

what is the rest of your set up? either thats a bad chip or a really bad mobo. try re seating the heatsink maybe? i know its a pain but if your worried about temps then thats the best way
smile.png
the voltage for a clock speed will depend all on the chip
smile.png
its called the silicon lottery
smile.png

the difference the fan makes will depend on the airflow through the case
smile.png
if its to loud just turn it back down a bit or buy a quieter fan
smile.png
hope you get it sorted soon mate
