I'd get two 500gb Seagate 7200.10s Their speed is in the 70MB range each so you will be flying with two in raid 0 (in linux). I get sustained speeds in the 120 to 140MB range for sequential reads and writes. I picked up two for a hundred each from frys.com a month back or so
