Far Cry 2 - major disapointment.

Got it today, had really high hopes for it. Read a couple of reviews, all were very positive and frankly it's a let down.

The graphics are good, not great but pretty good. The shooting, explosions, all fantastic.

But so many flaws. The storyline is utterly pointless. Every mission involves going to a place and killing everyone there, essentially. Nearly all of these places look the same.

The map is huge and you can go anywhere. All this means is you'll get a mission and it'll be on the other side of the map. You drive for about 10minutes. This consists of driving through the same scenery then getting attacked at a bridge/checkpoint. Kill everyone, drive on, repeat ad naseum. Oh, and then everyone respawns when you apss by 3 minutes later *sigh*

Am I the only one finding this very boring?

I'm loving it.. to be quite honest.

I don't really think it is a disappointment, it has fantastic graphics as you mention although there are some glitches which need to be fixed.. patches will be released soon enough to sort that one out, EG the AA doesn't work.. the screen just flickers by me.

Although I can kind of agree with what you say, I personly don't think it's that bad at all, can't say that it's in the class of crysis gameplay as they hinted it would be, however, its alot smoother runing, better coded and the physics are good.

I'm giving it 8/10 so far, not as good as the hype, really waiting for c&c red alert 3 and the new Call of Duty:worship: anyone else???

tbh i think i have to agree with sjek on this one, yes it looks great, but i really dont think that much of the game play

i also don't find this game very attractive... yes it has good gfx and runs smoother than crysis, but the game simply failed to get me going like crysis did... i feel the story is not as immersive and after playing a few missions i am not eagger to keep on playing like i did on crysis or crysis warhead.

Indeed i also got Dead Space and after playing approximatly the same amount of time for both games, i found it is much better than Far Cry 2 on everything ... The gameplay and gfx are very similar to Mass Effect and they are both excellent. Dead Space makes me want to stay up and play while Far Cry 2 is not going to keep me awake!

I think this game is a great achiement, because of the optimization.. Yeh yeh, I know theres a handful of bugs, but what games hasn't got bugs?

I am really enjoying it, love the atmosphere, explosions and stuff.

Yes I think the lack of gameplay is a fair comment, there is no story.

Ubisoft said they wasn't going to port it to PC, but that is what they exactly did, it's full of bugs, hardly any controller changes (like switching guns between auto, burst etc). I had to do some edits just to get the 180.24 (which were designed for Far Cry 2) to actually open the game in fullscreen. But it hasn't really sucked me in... And the car physics are rubbish, ubi said "destructible environment" but I can't even run through some hay

But I learnt:

UBISOFT ARE LIERS!

And the totally lack of support from the mods and devs on the far cry 2 forums is stupid. But once all the bugs are sorted etc.. It'll be a fun game to play.

No problemo.

One gripe though. It seems to hang whenever I use the Coach/Bus to the centre of Map. Game needs urgent patching.

Found it very good, very enjoyable, plenty of stuff to do. similar to Just Cause, but so much better, starting with graphics and yes missions do make sense in this one

From the way you guys are describing the game it sounds like it is open world... is it?

Yes it is open world.

Best thing i have found so far is shooting Zebra, everything else is dull.

Crysis is far better in every respect.

Open world is Tox's fave!

Crysis was boring linear and had no interesting story line. Even the graphics started to look bad by the end of the game.

farcry 2 has to be one of this years most dissapointing games for me

i'll try it on the 280 once it arrives, and may report back but the liklihood of me coming OFF crysis after the 280 arrives is VERY slim

The ending to Crysis was poor to be honest... not alot I can say about it. Oh wait.. LAG!
