Fancied a change...

I have some massive changes to both my main PC and folding PC over the next week or so which is very exciting for me.

I had an 1100t in my main PC for a few months but the old Asus motherboard I was using (M4A77TD Pro) couldnt keep up with my overclocking and as a result I couldnt get it past 3.9Ghz regardless of voltages as the volt spikes were very uncomfortable indeed (see below)

So rather than forking out for a new motherboard, I decided to have a bit of a switch around.

Ive sold/given away parts of my folding PC:

Gigabyte MA78G DS3H

4GB (2x2GB) generic DDR2 (800Mhz)

8800GTS (OEM cooler) 512mb

Phenom 9950 BE @ 2.6 Ghz (AM2+)

And Im replacing them with a cheap and cheerful AM3 board with 2GB of DDR3 along with the 1100t and a GTX 470 with a sole purpose of folding.

For my main PC, I went out on wednesday and bought an i5 2500k and an P67 Sabertooth, which i`ll be using for gaming, video rendering and folding - I took some photos of the swap out

Its now fully stable @ 4.5Ghz and folding steadily (12-15k PPD), and i`ll be cleaning up the cables over the next few days as I ran out of cable ties

I`ll add pictures of the new folding rig as and when its complete

I`ll give it a shot when I have some more thermal paste and see what difference the temps make

the logic I used is I have 2 200m exhausts at the top which the hot air will be aimed at so they will get rid of it quicker than t he single 120mm fan at the rear

I really want to get me a P67 Sabretooth but I need to buy a few non PC related things and can't afford it at the moment

Also, if you can get 4.7ghz at reasonable voltage you might be able to get up to ~17,000 PPD on some WU's, it's what i was getting at 4.7ghz anyway but I needed 1.385v to get 4.7ghz stable and i don't want to use those volts for a 24/7 OC.

I was thinking that when looking at the pic's...... Would look 100% better with the cooler the other way..... Also the temps will be a little better, as like Tom says atm its sucking warm air from the GPU.

Cleaned up the cables, flipped the PSU and rotated the Noctua

now i know (more-or-less) how much the slice off the bottom few fins that cover the last memory slot

doing so, won't affect the heatpipes whatsoever

very nice, the cooler does look better like that, can you tell me if there is a clear cmos switch or jumper on the p67 sabertooth, i can't see one.
