Fan Expert on Asus boards.

Hello!

I am planing upgrade my pc to sandy bridge with P67 or Z77 board.First I was thinking go for MSI because lower price but Asus boards have fan expert who change fan speed according temperature that mean i can save on fan controller.

But does Fan Expert work on 3pin fans or only on 4pin?

On P8Z77 has six 4pin connectors and Fan Expert 2. But on P8P67 has two 4pin and two 3pin and Fan Expert.

I am sorry for my bad English grammar.

You can only adjust the speed of 3pin fans on 3pin headers though, if it's a 4pin header you can only adjust the speed of 4pin fans on it.

Fan Xpert can be a bit of a bother to work with though, in my experience anyway, I ended up just getting a fan controller anyway. Works for 3 pin though.

I'm surprised people have had problems with FanXpert, I have never had any. Maybe there were problems with it on older baoards but it worked perfect on my P8P67. A fan controller is a better solution though.

Don't speak too soon. You'll change out a random item of hardware and all your Asus software will malfunction...

never had any issues with it myself, works fine and adjusts my speed depending on my temps.

great little program i'm sad to hear about ppl who have had bad expeirences with it

I love fan xpert. I have dual Excalibur that use it on my side panel and they both run at 40% and they are 100% quiet as can be. What bugs me though is if you change something in the BIOS you have to redo the fan xpert profile.

Quick question to the people who use fan expert, does the program have to start on windows startup or does it send the settings you make in the app to the bios, reason i ask is coz i got an asus board but i just never bothered using it but now interested

I installed it as part of the Asus AI suite, you can choose which programs to install to it. The Asus AI suite launches on start up, I don't know if FanXpert on it's own does though but it does also change the fan settings in the BIOS, it did on my P8P67 anyway.
