Right....
Randomly looking through forums regarding differences between PWM and 3 pin fans...
I never knew this but apparently the 3 pin fans reduce the speed by rapidly turning the motor of the fan on and off. Now, I've been using a fan controller for the last few years (NZXT sentry 2), and disregarded fans as i've always heard clicks or rattles from the motor, which then vibrate through the case and make immense amounts of noise. If people want a youtube video of a coolermaster fan i have, im happy to upload one. I kept the fan purely because i thought it was funny how people said the fans were silent, and in my case it made ridiculous amounts of noise.
Anyway...today, after reading that, I decided to experiment...
I plugged the loud coolermaster fan onto a molex, and despite running at full speed it was quiet with no motor clicks whatsoever.
So...
As I'm going to watercooling within the next few weeks, I'm gunna be making an order for a big set of fans, and I was going to buy a new fan controller. But now I'm totally confused. Can I get some kind of PWM fan controller? Or do I need those 5v and 7v cable adapter things?
Cheers for the help guys, after all this time being into computers and realising I've been doing something wrong all the time!
