As you do more stuff on your PC and use up processor cycles, the TPF will fluctuate, and it will try and estimate when a work unit will finish. The faster it finishes the more points you get (quick return bonus - QRB ). So for a given WU the smaller the TPF the more points you'll get.

I'm thinking of upgrading my 5850 to a 750Ti will this increase my PPD drasticly and be worth the £130 for an EVGA one? (Yes it does use one 6 pin) but i will eventually have two if it is generally worth the money to go and replace my older card.
