Extreme CPU Temps?

I recently OC'd my i5-2500k to 4.0Ghz but as a week or so went by, the temps jumped up significantly.

I've since removed the changes in my bios but idling at the desktop is still giving me around 98 degrees.
Running games has become a joke because they've become way too choppy to do anything, and even simple things such as scrolling down a webpage takes a little while.

Some other things.. when I watch a youtube video or listen to pandora, all 4 of my cores start working at nearly 100%.

Is this a sign that I need a new cpu or that my cooler died?

Hoping that it was the latter of the two, I purchased both:

"CORSAIR Hydro Series H100i Water Cooler"
and
"Arctic Silver Arcticlean Thermal material Remover & Surface Purifier ACN-60ML (2-PC-SET) - OEM"

from newegg planning on using some of my old Tuniq TX-2 when they come in tomorrow.

I also feel like I may have made some bad choices in the bios, so I reversed nearly everything to the fail safe options. Any and all input will be greatly appreciated.

If it helps:
Gigabyte Z68A-D3H-B3
i5-2500k
Corsair GS700

Are you using the stock intel cooler? If so check to see if any of the push pins have unhooked.

It's a generic closed-loop water cooler, with the blue light still going over the water block meaning that everything's running fine.

are you sure the cooler is installed correctly? 98° at idle certainly isn't anything near normal

The water block is laying flush against the cpu and there isn't any wobble or movement with the brackets holding the cooler against it. All the fans are running too, and I can hear that there's coolant in there.

go online and download something like core temps .. if your using corsair link its useless ...
tell me what temps your really getting

Just restarted my comp so they're a little lower, but by the time this uploaded, they're back up to 95.

your nut running something like prime at start up or somethiing, my pc folds on boot up, when you boot up and go into your bios there should be a deafalt have you done that another thing what direction are your fans on the rad going and where is the rad

Try resetting your CMOS. I had something similar (not this extreme) and resetting my CMOS worked. Also, open task manager and see if anything is making your CPU run at 100%.
Hope this helps.

Nothing out of the ordinary on startup, the most cpu intensive thing is explorer.exe. I went back into my bios and put it on the "Optimized Default" preset. As for the cooler, it's located at the top of my case, with the fan blowing through the radiator out the top.

Think the pump might not be working as it should and not getting the coolant through the radiator?

fan or fans? and put them on max but still your cpu should not be doing that at default did you replace the stuff on the bottom of the h100

and do you have corsair link running

I don't have the H100i yet, it's going to be delivered tomorrow. That's kind of the reason behind this thread, I don't know if it's that I have a faulty cooler or cpu.

no point in trying to OC with the standard cooler esp from 3.4 ghz to 4 ... thats alot of heat.
you could of dried out the thermal paste

I said it's a generic water cooler earlier, remember, or.. I think I did, and no, the radiator isn't all that warm. The only warm parts are the water block and the base of the tube that leads to the radiator.
