Extended Desktop Help!

Hi Guys

I need some help, I have 2 monitor's an Alienware AW2310 & Samsung SM2433. I have the XFX 5870 GFX and wanted to run both monitors. plugged both into the DVI ports in GFX card.... but the samsung flickers all the time, no matter what resolution I put it on.....

Anyone have any ideas??

Check the cable

Check the cable, reinstall the drivers using driver sweeper. Set catalystcontrolcentre in the display part of it to create group, at the correct resolution and 60HZ.

Have tried changing the cables, does exactly the same

Samsung on its own is fine

Alienware on its own is fine

Together Samsung flickers Have tried reinstalling drivers, and doing the settings in CCC makes no difference

Have you tested both the dvi ports with just one monitor at a time?

Sounds like the refresh rate is different?

Yeah the refresh rates are different, but even if i set them the same, still flickers

Perhaps try remove the card and blow for dust or anything? Worth a shot.

Also disable the overclock (overderive?)

Or group the monitors together???

Never heard of two different refresh rates. Can you set them both at 59 Hz? I know some monitors run at that frequency.

The second monitor still flickers on extended desktop..... But if I select duplicate the desktop, both monitors work fine, appart from they are both displaying the same thing. If I select extended desktop again, the second monitor flickers again

Any Ideas?????

Did you try disable the overclock feature?

Try duplicating the monitors together, you can do it in the driver panel.

Fixed it, I updated the drivers to the latest (Didn't realise any new one had been released)

Is there a way of accessing the desktop on the second monitor, while playing a game on the first.... tried it with one of the games in steam but didn't work

For example - talking to someone of MSN while playing a game???

No the game will minimise itself. Tell them to just get steam I always put the message window on top though when I'm playing games on the other monitor, so if I don't see they have said something, it will pop up on that one.

I am using steam, but when playing a game I can't get the mouse pointer, or even see the Messenger box on the other monitor

you should be able to, just move it ontop of everything before you start the game. Like i said, you wont be able to get to it while playing, but will be able to see what they are saying

iirc when i tried this with my 1080p screen and 1280x1024 screens when you pause the game you should be able to move the mouse off of it into the other screen, it will minimise it tho when you click something other than the game, if push comes to shove just alt tab out the game.

I did that with Aion when I had to 2 screens, Windowed full screen will minimize it but you can still see the window.
