Hello all , I am looking to setup a WC loop in the summer with an XSPC ex420 rad. I cant find the FPI spec anywhere.

What would the recommended fan be in a push/pull setting on a NZXT switch 810? note that the ex420 takes 140mm fans.

get a thicker rad mate, no point messing around with a 35mm rad when you can get an 80mm in there and as long as you get some decent rad fans, e.g. bitfenix pros

you cannot get an 80mm rad in the in push/pull while I may agree slightly that the EX420 would be a waste of the space there it would not be bad. And imho a 80mm thick rad is another waste of that space. It'll gain you nothing in temps and unless you got the right fans it may even hinder the temps. Bitfenix pros are nice fans and move decent air but at only 1.38 for static pressure are not decent fans for an 80mm thick rad plus at 12volts they make a lil noise.

So unless you want to mod the top (make holes work for a 420mm rad) I'd suggest a decent 360mm rad 60mm thick would be more than enough to cool a cpu

I know the EX360 i have has 19 fpi, but they have 2 rows of fins between the tubes, so effectively 38 fpi. Im assuming the 140 EX's are the same.

I think the Noiseblocker Blacksilent Pro PK3 are one of the best 140mm fans out there and probably the Akasa Apache. Those would be the 2 i would be looking at tbh.

normally its counted as a single row but no matter really as the reviews i've read on the EX series say they perform no better than the RS series. With the allowable room above the mobo I'd strongly recommend a 60mm thick rad and be done.

I'd stick a 60mm thick rad up top and run Pull. Maybe three GT AP15's or try some Akasa Apache's, both have good static pressure I believe.

I'm going to be putting an XSPC RX360 in the roof when I get the Switch 810, gonna throw a RX240 downstairs too. I've got Yate Loons going on the RX, may change to the above suggestions, not sure yet. I'm also going to pop XSPC 1200RPM fans on the RX240 in the bottom see how they run. If I'm not happy I'll change my fans for either the Apache's or the GT's, I'm not really sure how important static pressure is when in Pull as opposed to Push.

Not sure the yates will like being mounted horizontally, i believe the bearings wear out pretty quick mounted that way. Not speaking from experience though, just what ive heard

Yeah I've heard this aswell, I'll just have to see how it all goes. Ideally I'd prefer to keep them, I don't like spending much money on fans, 10-20 Pound per fan for me is just too much, I'd need 5 for my RX360 and RX240 (when i get the 240) if I went for the new Noctua's I'd have to spend £100 on fans alone! or £50-60 for GT's/Apaches or I could just spend £25 on Yates or depending how I get on with the XSPC 1200RPM fans £15 intotal for 5 lol

truth be told fans for your water cooling rads should be lumped in with psu's dont skimp. I say this cause I went economical with my fans and now wish I had plopped down for better fans. While the ones I got are very decent 12 of them on 12volts (benching or extended gaming) can make a ruckus when dialed down there fine. So spend wisely and avoid the damn I hate these fans need better ones and now have to spend even more $$ trap

/\ VALUED ADVICE

Its hard for some people to spend £100+ on fans though. I remember when i did the first time, i bought 8 AP15's and afterwards felt physically sick

But, it is worth it and your 100% spot on S_I_N, its worth it in the long run!

true we have all done it while it does make ya ill to spend it I wish I would of done mine different. after spending 90$ on fans and now wishing I had spent 150$ and gotten better ones. So now i'm at the point of hmm I need these fans 150$ now plus 90 back then when i should of just went the 150 to start with. And currently dont have the 150 for fans as i'm trying to lock down my 6970 blocks got one today but the other one hasnt even shipped yet and i bought them at same time. Trying to get the bloke to refund me so i can get one elsewhere now.
