Eventfull day...

...i went into school this morning, to start my A2 courses (second year of 6'th form/post 16 education)

went to an assembly, that lasted well over an hour...in which he said the head had implimented a new polocy, and that they wanted a 100% pass rate, of atleast a E ...minimum pass grade, for A2, ....so ...i thought ok, i should be able to manange that, then we all went to form room's, and i was called up to mr colton (my head of year's office) and i had been told in assembly that anyone getting called up was because of particually good, or bad results, so i went up, and waited outside his office, for what seemed like an eternity, 2 people had been in before me, one who got 3 U's and an E (a U is a fail, E is minimum pass grade) and the other two U's and 2 E's, same as me, and they had both been kicked out, so i went in, and said, after seeing the expression on his face "your kicking me out arnt you" ...he said "yes" ....talk about a career change ....

so i sat there discussing it all with him, the head's polocy wasnt just ruthless, it was extreme, he only wanted people in his sixth form that will PASS EVERY SUBJECT, he wanted a 100% pass rate from everyone in everything.

so i left...what else could i do...

i went to a connexions office thing (careers advice, kind of) and they advised me, and 2 others's to go to collage...

so i went home, had lunch, then rang the local newspaper, and told them my story, they're going to print it frontpage next week, as a form of discrimination, ...because it is, ...me and a few others all rang in and said what happened, and they said how terible it was and everything, and that school only let us know the day we went back, not when we'd actually got our results, so thats going to be top news

i then thought...since i have nothing to loose, i'd go to the collage....they offered me a place in somthing called a Btec, worth 2 full A levels, over 2 years, to do ICT, network, computer management, and software development, ...i jumped at the chance, and now i'm a collage student...

so today has been pretty eventfull....

any comments?

other than that i would like to rearange mr coltons face with a belt sander, but i shouldnt really say that :p

All i can say is gratz mate.

Collage > 6th form in every possible way (given that you have a few mates going, and if you don't you just make new ones).

Hey, Yea im practicaly on the same course.

Im on a course called ICT Proffesionals Level 3, which is BTEC :)

Its a really good course tbh.

And i got my 1st Distinction.. which is suprising seeing as 4 people in my class got them. And im the youngest person in the whole class.

i'm not sure entirely what course it is, but its a Btec......not sure of level, and i know it has computer hardware

networking

and a bit on software

making a program

and how to deal with customers.

it looks really fascinating...

and collage looks awsome

but i HATE colton, more than EVER now....

my life was all planned out, he ruined it...gah

but i guess its for the better this

its my ticket into uni, even if i have to stay in this dumpy little town for another 2 years...

This may sound harsh, but if you got however many U's and a couple of E's, what's the point in you being there?

You need to be studying or you'll fail. There are other ways to get good jobs...

Think long and hard about what you are going to do, don't waste your time with something you are not committed to :)

ICT is somthing i enjoy,

they asked to see my GCSE results for ICT

i had 75/80 on exam one, an A

and 65/80 on exam 2, a B,

but my coursework was 44/120, an E

and 12/150, a fail, so my end grade was an E

the lady at the collage based my entry into this course on the A and the B...

so yeh...should be good...

I enrolled for my college today.. taking Art, Chemistry, Psychology and maths.. :) looking forward to it.. should be a nice challenge :) as long as its not too hard... lol.

Yeh just do the best at whatever your given, i tried for my GCSE's and it paid off nicely, so i can go to 6th form and do what i planned.

Some people i know are doing the same course as you.. good luck!!

Aslong as you put the work in.... It will be great

But i can see where your head is coming from.. its a fair enough plan... our head does the same.. you need 5 A*'s to C's to get into the college.. Theres no point teaching some poeple who dont want to be taught, or dont put the effort in.. im not saying you dont, coz u may well do.

Anyway good luck with the new course..

my grades, as they stand atm:

GCSE:

Science: Cx2

I have my first day of Henley College on firday.

I am very nervous.. but should be good.

Good luck at your new college ionicle, sounds like a really good course! :)

haha its great if he gets 100% pass rate, but not if he does it by kicking out everyone who might not get it!

gratz on finding a new course ian, but as Mr Smith says, if you arent passing them then there wasnt really much point in you being there anyway. These days an E in an A level isnt that impressive.

i can see why he did it, although i dont condone it.

kicking out the less academic people allows the more academic people to obtain higher grades, due to the teacher having to do less explaining to the class.

then they should split the class, into slower learners and the brighter sparks, me aparantly being the former...

give everyone an opertunity

What the school did is totally disgusting in my opinion. OK, so some people need to work harder or perhaps aren't cut out for A levels, but that's totally immoral and wrong and if that goes national the press will have a field day

Myself I believe that if you cannot or will not do well in A levels then do something else (apprenticeship, BTEC, whatever) and make it something you want to do and something that gives you a good end product that you will enjoy

Good luck Ian, I really hope you like the course and it's what you want to do, and I hope you do well in it

if my grandad has his way...it will go national...

i dont want that so much...local, yes, but not national...

i tried A levels, i aparantly dont have what it takes, and i guess this Btec is more for me, its somthing i enjoy, so i'll have motivation more, but to just cut me, and others away simply because we're not good enough, and we dont fit in with the head's plans, is not right....

we should be given asmuch a chance at A level's as anyone else, even if we're not so good at them, ...i mean i didnt fail everything, but i stil got cut loose, ....idk what to think anymore.

and thanks :)

In our area i guess we are lucky, we have our colleges for the pick of crop then we have the colleges for the less academic.. we can all do the same courses just at different levels.. im sure there are these facilities in every area?

I personally, without being mean, think the head is doing right, BUT only if he then provides the facilities.. or shows facilities to the people he rejects. Having mixed abilities is anoying for both parties in a subject that you really want to do, coz the people either feel left behind or like they are being held back.. splitting the classes would be a viable option.. but you have to remember then more teachers are needed.

It is not fair to cut u off and leave u with nothing on the day you think your going back to college you should have been warned wayyyyy in advance.. Our school 6th form has a set criteria every student must meet before they can enter this 6th form. If your school dosent then this press thing is a good idea. GOOD LUCK

i got my 5 C's at GCSE ...hense how i got in...

but i was basically shown the door, with virtually no time to get into collage, and no help given from school, ...just given the boot, ....on the day, on such short notice

AHh sorrryyy i missed your post that showed ur grades.. well then.. thats awful.. get them well and truly embarassed..

:)

just to mention, its Bridlington School Sports Collage

they have a bullying problem too....i had my leg broken for me in year 9 (no that wasnt a mis-type) and nobody did anything...

bullied from years 8 to...well, 12 really if i'm honest with myself...and they do nothing to prevent it...

some teachers are great, and really try, but most dont care...
