Entry level certifications/education

I was wondering what would be the best way to get your foot in the door in a tech help desk type job. As in, what type of certifications would be the best to focus on for general computer knowledge...and then work your way into more specific certifications. What certifications or degrees do you guys have? How do you recommend prepping for a test? Taking classes? Or checking out books from the local library? I was looking into the A+ cert for starters. Thanks in advance!

I don't know if this will help but here are my two cents. "I wish I had more cents"

The A+ cert is a good start for a couple of reasons. One it's petty easy to self study and pass the test. Second it will get your foot in the door for an entry level job. The next thing you will want to do if you are planning to really make a carrier is get your MCP. Then you can look into drilling down into a specialty or becoming more of a generalist.

As for my certifications, I had my MCSE, however it expired in 2003. I went into test engineering in development or SDET. So there was no need for me to continue to update the cert. In any case once your working you will find that experience or skill often trumps education. That has been my experience anyway.
