Effect of 8*8 over 16*16

In terms of PCI-E lanes available... This P5N-E SLI uses 8*8 config over the 16*16 found on the 680i boards. There's obviously going to be a performance hit but how large? I've found figures for 8800GTS's and performance hit isn't huge at lower (benching) res's but would this hold true for the GTX?

PLanning on a single 8800GTX to start, with the possibilty of adding another - can anyone see any issues?

Well Nvidia obviously stand by their latest mobo set and say 16x16 is the only way to maximise your sli G80's.

I thought that becuase of this they would not run (as in blocked in drivers) on 8x8?

Personally I think we have yet to saturate the current bus and have to be proven otherwise so providing that SLI G80's are not blocked from running 8x8 I dont see any reason why it wont run as good as in 16x16.
