I've just sold my samsung d600 mobile on ebay, it was at £82 till the last minute, then it suddenly went into silly money, like below

£465

£455

£444

£300

£222

£82.50

They send me a email straight away asking if i can send to another destination other than there registered address.

I know the phone isnt work anywhere near the winning bid, just wanted to know if anyone else has heard of this sort of scam (if it is, which im sure it is)

That`s crazy talk, the kinda think that screws it up for legitimate users I guess.

Can/is/have u informaed the ebay people ? Maybe an IP or an ISP note can be attached to prevent something or whatever in the future.

(I don`t know if there are "correct channels" as I`ve never ebayed anything, my sister has - most successfully, but I haven`t)

They will more than likely want you to use an escrow company of their choice (completely bogus of course), where they send you a bogus email stating that your money has been sent to the escrow company and will be released to you once the merchandise gets to the purchasing party. At which point your merchandise arrives you get nada, zip, zilch.

It's like that scam that Emma (i think...) posted up.

they must have the IQ of a 3 year old. i mean to bid on a phone twice what you can get it brand new. crazy!

Go down the list to the last legit bid and offer it to them. I think you're allowed to do that. Not used e-bay for ages since I got scammed by a "genuine" Windows XP disc, a 1gig stick of DDR400 RAM and still awaiting payment for a couple of other bits.

i dont understand

if you wait for the money to clear whats the worse that can happen?

Some people pay with stolen credit cards or other stolen information. It may take several days or longer before someone realises that money is missing from their account, and when they do the banks will be after you to get the money back :(

no it doesnt work like that...

they use an escrow service like frag said, usually a bogus one.

they say you wont get the money til they receive the item, seems fair, but they get the item, and you never get the money

yeah but i think you are protected for that

another guy said the fake buyer will AGREE not to pay until he has shipped the item. im not being funny but if you agree to that there is something wrong with you. especially if they are from nigeria etc.

I'm afraid i speak from experience... :(

Sold a Digicam on ebay, some guy bought it with "his" credit card via paypal. I saw that the money had entered my account, shipped it to the dudes address and thought everythign was fine.

2 days later had an email from paypal saying they'd taken the money out of my account as it had been paid for using a stolen credit card :(

s o what happened in the end? did you get your money back?

where did this guy live.

right but its not like u are just taking the guyq word that he will send the money once he gets the merch. the way escrow works is that the buyer sends the money to the escrow co. at which point the escrow co. notifierr

*notifies the recipient that they have the funds and that u can now ship the item. then once the item gets to the buyer the escrow co. releases the funds to the seller. it actually works rather well when not using a fake escrow co. :p
