EA Raping you wallet just a little more

EA are now doing some totally different and to be honest i wonder how long it will last

Each new games comes with a 1 Off registration code for there online play. What does this mean.

Well when you register it it will allow you to play that single game over the net / Network (notice the word network). If you dont have a code you cannot play that game online or over the network. This is allso for Consoles buy the way.

So if you a perviour of cheap games and buy second hand your online game maybe useless as the code will already be used.

Now to be honist when you use steam you are doing this allready becuase once you own a game on steam that is it. you own it. you cannot sell that game on and thats life. So is what EA doin bad. Who knows. Will it make some cry. Probably

How ever i have friends who own second hand shops reselling games and this is going to hit them hard and is going to be like a direct kick in the teeth.

Starting with the release of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the publisher will introduce a new Online Pass, a one-time registration code included with each brand new copy of the game. The code allows players to access “online services, features and bonus content.”

Those who purchase the game used can buy an Online Pass for $10 or sign up for a free 7-day trial. The pass will be implemented for NCAA Football 11, NHL 11, Madden NFL 11, NBA 11, FIFA 11, and EA Sports MMA as well. The pass offers different features for each title, however, players will not have access to basic multiplayer features if purchased used.

“You will be unable to play multiplayer online game modes or use your downloaded content in online game modes,” EA says. Online leagues, dynasty and franchise modes are also only available with the Online Pass. The break down for each title can be seen on the publisher’s official website.

Well I'm all for this. This speeds up the process where the rest of the world realise how bad for games and gamers EA are, and the sooner they boycott more of their titles.

I'm not the only one who feels EA is commercialising games too much, I mean I don't mind paying for games, but some recent EA titles have been very dissapointing compared to previous games in the series (i.e. prior to EA coming along). All seems very greedy to me, I know it is a buisness but on the other hand, you can't expect to treat your customers like dirt and then expect them to cough up every year for the same game.

Read about this today. I'm sure it sounded great to the idiot executives when the marketing people pitched the idea but this will come back to bite them.

It's not just the one time pass they're doing. They have a whole plethora load of things to make more money and slow second hand game sales. That's what this is all about. Loads of people buy the game new..... That's it..... Done. One sale.

From there that copy gets played through and returned to the store it was purchased from and traded or sold against another title. At said point someone else buys it...... Repeat ad nauseum.

EA are desperately trying to stop that. They are releasing games with content that is only available to the original purchaser. Like, say, a DLC that gives you a special gun or something.

I see everyone has their panties in a bunch over this but it's been debated to death on a forum I go on. In the end we concluded that it was actually a good idea. As a gamer I want my money to go to game companies. With that money they can then get better and better and produce better games.

Personally I absolutely and utterly cannot stomach game shops. They're overpriced so I order everything online. However, what I hate the absolute most about them is the way that they pay you **** all for your second hand games and then price them up say, £5 cheaper than the brand new title. They are making millions and millions of pounds on nothing but trading used games alone. Because of this they order far less brand new titles than they would have done too.

Personally if I am buying a game I am buying it because I want it. I don't consider myself to be a hardcore gamer (well I do, but I don't play mediocre titles that aren't god like as I have played 'em all before). So I reserve myself to the absolutely killer titles like Fallout 3, Crysis and so on. You know? the ones where the creators have actually made a bloody effort. To that ends I don't really care what the game costs in physical money, so long as it's worth it. Also when I buy a game I keep it.

So for me this 'scheme' EA have will work out wonderfully and I am totally behind it. I noticed that Obsidian and Bethsoft have actually had the idea to sell custom tailored versions of Fallout : New Vegas to people that are suited to their play style. That's not FAIL that's friggin genius man. Being able to start off a game in different ways.

This comes in time for the GAMES TAX reduction which is going to hit them hard (I was told?)... about time the reduced the price of their software then people can afford the games. I'm not going to pay £40 for a game in which I only want to play with my mates or for a few hours a month.

I had the price debate with a friend of mine last night. And to be honest for the hours some games are absolute bargains at £40.

I always gamed with the philosophy that my enjoyment of a game should last longer than I can earn it. I made $15.50 an hour at my last job and a decent game ran me $60 in the U.S. Thus, if the game lasted me five hours and was fun it was worth it. However, a great game will last far longer than that. Here I am 17 months in still playing Fallout 3 pretty much every day. Fallout to me is like a universe. All told? I think I spent about £100 on the collectors box with all the DLC.

Work = hate

Game = love

I also slowed down on the ammount of games I played and stopped playing all the crud. I will only even entertain the idea of a game that scores 9+ or 90% plus. And it better darn well include something new.

Just like everything else gaming is great ; but only in moderation. Too much of it can ruin your enjoyment of it.

Which is why I did not enjoy eating out. I could not earn the money faster than I could spend it eating out. Decent restraunt was $35 or so and only lasted for an hour or so. Bad.

I think the latest generation are just too spoiled to appreciate anything. Especially when it's so easy to just steal your way through the digital age without stopping to think how much stuff costs. I dread to think of what Bethesda spent in hours and wages on Fallout 3. I know the game was in production for a matter of years. Not days or weeks but years.

I don't particularly like EA though because they have no real gaming heart left. Just a corporate tit pulling cash cown machine. See also, Activision.

, failage, more fail than my girlfriends cooking... more fail than my dads mistress... more fail than Bebo itself.

Amen, brother.

Anyway, I know this is a bit of an old thread but did anybody here buy APB? If you did then you know what happened.. for the others, here - The guys up at Realtime Worlds told the publisher, EA (oh yes baby, I just said it), that the game wasn't near completion. As one of the most resilient beta players, I saw it come together. In the begining it was a bit of a nightmare really. Some of the people at RW got sick and tired of the constant deadlines EA had been putting for them and did a bit of a botched job. The result of which was that the game was munching up on any PC there was, is and would probably even challenge some of the ones about to come. That could've put some off but it wasn't the major issue. The major issue was that EA demanded that the game had a monthly subscription which RW were strongly against but the hungry publisher's will was stronger. This is what put most people off in my opinion. You pay £40 odd quid for the game and then a tenner every month? I'm sorry but that's just bloody ridiculous. And then what happened? Not many people bought the, quite honestly, brilliant yet unfinished game, RW found keeping the servers running too expensive and they killed it. That was really, really, really unfair. And all because of what? Yes, that's right, EA. They got their cash for publishing the game and that's a shame though what's even worse is that that Realtime Worlds and all the gamers that bought it had to suffer. The programmer monkeys up at Realtime Worlds were churning out updates almost every day and I swear that by a month's time the game would've been almost perfect. Problem was that god damned subscription put people off.

Well having subscriptions was a bad tactic anyway.

Everyone knows that have free-to-play MMOs are far more popular and publishers gain more money through the whole pay-for-extra-items strategy. The only big game that will continue the subscrpition strategy will be WoW since it has loyal followers. Star Wars The Old Republic, DC Universe Online and won't last long with a pay monthly subscription.

That's just how things are.

On OC3D there was an article saying how there will be a Battlefield Play4Free game that allows people to play for free but pay for ingame items. The same with Battlefield Heroes. Those may not be big MMOs but they still will require a lot of servers and EA will be making loads of money through ingame item selling.

i tend to buy all my games through Steam and EA online

Allows my daughters to play too, but obviously not at the same time as me as they use my account.

HD fail, corrupt game ... reload.

Have made some duff purchases, MOH being one but games like Fallout 3 has legs and is worth the money.

looking in my games box i have things like splinter cell and silent hunter all long playing games worth the money. so what if its buy once, tied to me.

I really dont see what the fuss is about

Its the usual brit attitude that we want it all on a silver plate for fek all.

TBH I prefer paying a tenner a month for some MMO's I really enjoy (Can't wait till The Old Republic) but on most F2P mmo's it rapes your wallet more, yes you can play for free yet to get better items or gain access to better areas it costs you money. So you can play, but to be competitive you will have to pay anyway.

Runes of Magic, you can rent a mount for about 200 silver iirc for 2 hours which becomes very expensive, or pay £10 just for the mount.

you would think the richer they get the more they plough into better titles but hell, have you seen death spank and spare parts?! what is that bull crap? only good games of EA i like are c&c kane's wrath, battleforge (which i pay for ingame items on) and Crysis series. why don't these goons make crysis into an mmo? they'd be rolling in it!

Haha yeah I agree, you can play perfectly fine, but the problem is, you get stuck with the FREE classes. Everyone else has the awesome Knights, or Shaman class, you get stuck with the Janitor class, and some lame race. You start out with a 3 slot bag, but you can buy a 20 slot for $5! You get some sort of free donkey mount, or you can buy an uber steed for $10. So yeah, I will happily pay the subscription, it seems to work out cheaper by the end of the year.
