Does anyone know what this motherboard is?

I would splurge and get the Maximus. It's a better looking board, the sabertooth has that god aweful shroud over the entire board, it just looks gaudy.

For Z77 motherboards, MSI are actually the best out there IMO. A lot of members on here feel the same way.

I do agree with this though. He is right. MSI is a good board for the Z77 platform. But again, my opinion still stands the yellow accenting looks dumb in a red and black rig.

Great feedback thanks, sounds like MSI have come on leaps and bounds, it was 8 years ago tho so u guess that shouldn't be to much of a suprize.

So Maximus it is, as you say, can't get around the yellow detailing.

CPU then, i5? Is there a bunch of different options like there used to be? GO stepping etc or just the generational changes? I'm guessing the i7's not worth the extra for gaming?

Thanks for the info BTW

if you are doing ONLY gaming, then the i5-3570k is a great option for you and can save you nearly 100 pounds. BUT if you are editing/rendering video or doing something HEAVY in java, the i7-3770k is a good option. My recommendation is the 3570k though. There are only generational differences now, two major socket differences, 2011 and 1155, but the 1155 has two different generations of processors that can fit the socket. 3rd gen processors is what i would recommend which is the 3570k and 3770k. cheers mate!

you can always use a vinyl sticker to color change the yellow stripes..
some have mentioned black marker, gold leaf, sticker paper with a color.
so the yellow issue can be changed minimally..

I mod cases for my particular needs, but at the same time, when I can buy a board that fits my theme and requires ZERO time and/or effort to mod its worth it to me, not to mention that the Maximus OCs like a beast on all components from CPU, GPU and RAM. that advantage is worth the $89 difference for it IMHO. But, I can see your point if you are a budget builder.

not buying a feature correct board, because it has three small yellow details and
opting for a board almost twice the price isn't practical. that "other monies" can
be used for other items needed like better SSD, RAM or case.
$90 can buy a case, RAM, or SSD..

it isnt budget building, its smart building

the board is $120 away from being double the price, hardly something near to double. also, the board overclocks RAM and GPUs much better than the MPower, simply put the MPower is a great board, not discounting a thing at all, but when I am looking for MAXIMUM performance, the $80 jump again, is worth it to me. doesn't mean it's justifiable and/or worth it to spend the extra in your opinion.

IMHO I would just find a way to get over the yellow details, there is alot of things that can cover this, permanent markers, stickers, spray paint(Be cautious with this omg), your imagination

yeah, but this is for the OP and their price point and level of usage...
thats the consideration..

The MSI does look really good with the red detailing, why don't MB builders offer different colour inserts to match everyones colours schemes? Seems like a no brannier!

1366 was terrible, then and now. And a 990x is still $1000! Get a 1155 or if you have the money 2011. Or wait till Haswell which is what I am doing now.
