Do power supplies contain magnets?

May seem like a bit of an odd question, but I lost a screw while I was building my PC. It fell in to my PC where I couldn't get at it so I tipped my case a bit, it then seemed bounce around inside the case but I have not been able to find it.

I checked all over the floor but could not find it. I took everything out of my case, gave everything a good shake but could not hear anything.

So my thought was it may have bounced up into the power supply and gotten stuck to a magnet where I cannot see it. Again, I shook the PSU but could not hear anything.

If I've lost the screw, that's not an issue, but I don't want it to be stuck in something where it can do damage.

So, do PSUs have magnets in them (that do not need power to be magnetised)?

Thanks.

not sure if they have magnets, but make sure the screw isn't fallen in through the fan before you power it up.
it will short the psu out !!!!!!!

i knackered a psu this way. didn't know the screw was in it until it started burning. by then it was too late

Well there's not really a lot I can do to see if it's in there. I've had a good look through the fan grill and given it a good shake without any sign of a foreign object being in there, but I cannot open it up without voiding a 7 year warranty. :3

you can unscrew the fan and take the grill off and keep the warranty intact. May give you a better look through. Also if you're careful you could send in a magnetic screwdriver to try and pick it up :)

when i realised what was going on with mine and took the psu out of the rig, you could hear the screw rattling around inside.

hopefully the screw isn't in there

i dropped one into mine when building the new rig, just removed the psu turned it upside down and gave it a jiggle till it fell back out lol

They don't contain magnets per-se but as electric and magnetic fields are essentially the same it is entirely possible for something in your power supply to of become magnetised :P As said above, remove the grill/fan to get a better look without voiding your warranty

there should be a page for stories about the screw that got away! i swear every time i touch a pc i loose 1 screw that is never found again

thats the joy with piddly arse little screws, they just simply kinda vanish into the nether realms for all eternity, especially if you're like me and have shovel sized hands lol

What confuses me, is that you know there's only a finite area that they could have been flung to, and yet they still can never be found.
Then, usually, they just turn up out of the blue. Like they just got bored of playing their game of hide and seek -.-

I just threaten melting them down into models of justin beiber's face and they soon come out.
