Do I/my computer deserve better?

I currently have these as my primary PC audio system. Coupled with my X Fi xtreme music. I love listening to music and playing immersive games. I often find myself having to listen out for surround sounds almost like my rear speakers arent up to it.

I bought these about 3/4 years ago for my PS2. :p was £100 back in the day. Did I mention i love bass?

The reason i say all this is because i have a mini project coming next year hopefully. I aim to transform my bedroom into my own cinema (as close to as possible xD) plus christmas is coming up.. :p

Don`t have any experience of the model ur pointing at.

But I would say that the Creative DTT5.1 system I got (125 pound, 10+ years ago maybe), is gonna be darn hard to replace.

I would need an exceptional reason to do so. A breakage or something perhaps.

TBH this system sounds damn good for what they are rated at. Could do with punchier bass and better surround. Just thinking of options

Depends on how much you've got to spend tbh.

You can get a quality setup for £500

But then you can go up to £10k too....

If you're wanting to replace the creative with a set that you notice the difference from, then you're gonna need to spend around £500 imo

well i had a decent creative set (similar to those they were the P5800 5.1 set) probably just rebadged

and i went to proper home cinema surround sound and the difference is really quite something

for starters you realise how much you're paying for such TINY little cones

i spent a grand on mine mostly because i opted for 7.1 over 5.1 and because i bought a seriously awesome AV Reciever

if you want your room turning into a cinema i'd move away from 'pc speakers' and start looking at some decent mid/high end home cinema stuff

i can't recommend the Pioneer AV reciever amps (with hdmi etc) enough along with KEF speakers :)

i'm totally in love with mine and the sound leave my old creative speakers (what i thought was amazing) a long long way behind them :D

Yep exactly. PC sound "stuff" basically sucks compared to proper audio stuff.

Get a 5 point surround system with a good amp and you'll be laughing

Ahh if only :p I can only dream about BOSE etc. right now - Mind you i aint blowing it on any logitech this/that tho. They have never appealed to me - logitech makes keyboards lol

Time to start saving

I dunno, I mean it`s all a mixed bag.

I`ve heard all kinds of systems under all kinds of setups in a whole bunch of situations.

It`s all relative to how a person percieves sound also. Some base alot of emphasis on bass, others on treble. Some on loudness or depth, others on detail (if they can pick it up).

Being in a studio the size of a house, where all the walls are accousticly proofed and chucking in some cheap speakers - sounds amazing.

A front room with everyday accoustics and a cinematic 5.1/7.1, especially playing the likes of dvd material that outputs to those channels - sounds amazing.

A mac, which isn`t renouned for great sound, in an editing suite with good speakers, or even headphones - can sound amazing.

A bedroom with the likes of Creative xyz 5.1/7.1 playing an XF/HD audio based game - sounds amazing.

I`d only stay away from the `trophy` speakersets for the sake of them being trophy sets. It matters little to me if xyz knows I have Bose or whatever, as long as to me it "sounds amazing".

U can take the exact same set of kit and demonstrate it to the same person, but tinker with something simple like a gfx equalizer, such as a pc one or box, and the person will be willing to pay a few $100 more for it. Same system tho.

Guess I`m just saying not to go nuts with the costing.

Think if I were to make any changes, I`d possibly switch out the satelites for different resistance ones or something. Inherently any other system I`d go for would be the same kit rebadged and shinier.

i have a sony amp, and 5 speakers and sub, and i love it, got it about....3 years ago ish...and i've never heard anything better, when its properly tuned, even when playing through a realtec onboard soundcard on my laptop it still sounds amazing, so...

thats the STR-K740P

if you wanna look em up

should be fairly cheep now

i paid 250 for mine...

the instant i got them, sony released some new ones

then i've seen loads of new sets since...

Any1 got a Creative X-540 ? (think that`s what it`s called) Only $99, kinda wondered about them as a cheap cheap 5.1 for a certain pc/music for some1.

lol ye. Bose look nice and sound OK, but let's face it...you can get a lot better.

PC setups are "ok". A decentish set of HiFi seperates will widdle all over over any PC speaker setup from a great height; be you a base junkie, a details person or just like ear popping highs...nothing beats a proper set of speakers set into a nice frame on a good amp

I use a Panasonic home theatre system with my pc - it's decent enough but it was only £300 when I was at uni as I couldn't go nuts. I replaced the centre with a nice £100 eltax job as the sub is just rediculous and can drown out the mids.

I just bang that through the xfi and i think there is 700w of juice but... meh. It's all about the quality. Prop get something new when I get around to it but I'm kinda with Rast in the sense I'm going to keep it until it breaks.

Just picked up a jvc home theatre system the other day on flea bay for the lounge, £70, rrp was £250-300. Purely on the basis the one I got... 5 years ago was just above that rrp but still goes strong.

Cambridge audio make amazing value products, richer sounds ftw.

Speaking from my experience changing the small centre speaker to a decent one the difference was immense. Well worth it.

You have pc speakers, having never owned any couldn't say re compatibility but I think they use jacks don't they? Where as an after market audio speaker will use poz/neg copper/silver wire... You might have a problem there.

If you can then swap out the speakers, oh, but you might have a cheapo amp built in, that could be the problem. Hard to say mate, suck it and see
