Disable External Drive Auto Sleep

Afternoon all,

It has been a while since I have been on here so OH HERRO!

Right, my issue is with one of my external hard drives. It's a Hitachi XL Desk 1TB and I have been using it for Xbox storage but my issue is that it shuts itself off after 15mins of idle. This is fine on a PC but when trying to run a game from it on a 360 the 360 complains and sends you back to dashboard.

Now this shut off feature is built into the drive, I have tried using certain Linux programs to disable it but nothing so far has worked.

Any ideas?

What's the exact model? Hitachi has a tool called FeatureTool that you can use to disable/enable certain features. I'm not sure if this is one of them, but it's worth a shot. Go into their support section for your model and you should see the tool listed under downloads.

I saw FeatureTool and it said in the notes that it didn't support USB drives.

hmm, well it should be a normal drive inside the USB cage. Is it still under warranty? If not, I'd pop the case open and connect the drive directly to your PC.
