So the opportunity has arose for me to get a either a 3770k or a 4770k for £100 cheaper than the shops or even anywhere. How? Soon I'll be building my fiance a PC for uni. She'll be doing light gaming and heavy use with Photoshop, illustrator etc. Here's my PC spec as it is:
2500k cooled by a Antec 620
8gb corsair vengeance ram
MSI Z77A GD65 mobo
EVGA 660ti
The rest isn't really relevant
I know that the 2500k is good, great even however when I have the opportunity to get a 3770k or a 4770k I don't know which one to get. My use on the PC consists of heavier use of gaming, very heavy use in programs such as Photoshop, Maya, mudbox, blender etc and so I do a lot of rendering. The hyperthreading will be of use in this circumstance.
I have a decent motherboard and so if I were to go with a 4770k then I'd have to get a new motherboard and more specifically I'd get the same mobo: z87 gd65. This also is a nice option since my case is a cm storm trooper (black) with a window side panel, red led lighting, corsair fans with the red ring. So in theory getting the new mobo which is the gaming series (red theme), 16gb of corsair vengeance (red) ram makes sense to fit in with the whole PC. Currently it's red and blue (mobo) and blue Ram.
What's worth it since if I went for the 3770k I won't have to buy a new mono despite being able to get the z87 for £65 instead of £144.99; an obvious bargain but I don't have all the money in the world for everything. Is the 4770k worth it over the 3770k (forget about the 2500k since I have this one opportunity to get components cheaper).
Sorry for any spelling mistakes
