So Rast makes this post

I make this post

Now I don't know what to do.

The 8800GT wasn't good enough for my liking for games at high res. It was good but not butter.

So I get the X2 off the back of all the rave reviews which all pretty much said in most situations it is better than the ultra. OK, so I like benching and enjoyed extending my epeen with the 3dmark scores BUT I like to game more. For games it would seem after all this time for my res the GTX is still king.

I'm thinking about asking the etailer for a refund, possibly taking the re-stock fee and return postage. If they will, I think I'll go for it.

Which leaves my mate out of a gfx card lol (he hasnt paid me for it so I'll yoink it back) as I decide what the hell to do.

I can pick up a 2nd hand gtx for ~£200 so in effect that will cost me ~£75 to 'upgrade' (sell GT to friend and make up the rest out of my pocket)

So yeah... WTF.

Or will the new drivers around the corner raise the min fps, and give a consistant experience...

Return policy:

Please Note: In order to request a refund, you must be either:

a). Returning your product in A1, Unused condition, under the 7 Day Distance Selling Regulations

or

b). Returning a confirmed faulty product within 28 days of purchase.

Refund requests which do not comply with either of the above conditions will be rejected.

So I can repackage the card and say I never used it which might not work as technically I have used it a little bit :p

Basically... Ball bags. Looks like I'm stuck with the X2...

Where did you buy it? Ebuyer have actually arranged to collect my x2 simply because I didn't want it :p

I'm undecided on a pair of 3870's or an 8800Ultra tho :/

Novatech as they had one in stock with free next day delivery...

Edit: Yeah, I'm used to better customer service tbh! I haven't contacted them because I only get one shot to return for refund. If I'm honest and they say no, I'm shafted (I think). If I lie I might get away with it, or get caught out and be back to square one.

I mean, it isn't a bad card but f the GTX is better... Kempez where is that review? :p

What happened to the UK`s internet cooling off period thing ?

Anywho, my advice, as I`ve probably banged on about b4, is whichever of these u decide to stick with, keep it for atleast 6 months - or being realistic - get the 9800GTX when it comes out (as I have no doubt u`ll do) and hold onto that until a 10800GTX comes along.

Rep`ing ur card in too short a period can`t be very cost effective, well it isn`t, and for even 10 to 20% increase in alledged performance, I don`t think I`d bother. U can cancel that out a bit with a nice oc or a tweak somewhere.

As to which to hold onto out of ur choice ? Imo both offer excellent performance, `maybe` not of the single card 8800Ultra (still), but unless u can find a cheap 8800Ultra I wouldn`t bother getting 1. U want top-end quality card, the 9800GTX will deliver it, but ur gonna have to bide ur time or waste monies.

Soon as u got it, u wait til the next GTX comes out - I have no doubt any interim cards will come close, not even botched GX2s that u know are botched together old(last gen) tech.

Easiest answer is return the x2 - not for any other reason other than it was purchased more recently and u`ll get the biggest cash back.

Need something better than ur 8800GT ? atm I`d look at sell-off 8800GTX/Ultras or 2nd hand tbh. Baring in mind, if u join the GTX/Ultra "club", these cards can cost in excess of £600. Which sounds high, but look at how long Kemp has held onto his Ultra whilst all these other cards have come out.. there is pretty much no reason for him to upgrade, and I`m sure he oozes visuals from 1920x1200 and upwards - with masses of candy ;)

Bide ur time m8 ;) I`m jumping on the GTX boat myself l8r in the year :)

Hes on holiday somwhere sunny.

If i were you, just get an ultra and be happy till the real next gen emerges. You cant get better than the best...

Rast, second hand GTX's can be had for ~£200, which is fine by me.

I'd return the card if I could but Novatech state their policy in red - the OP. If you know of a legislation that overrides the '7 day distance selling act' enlighten me. I mean I assume this 7 day act is in addition to my statutory rights, however statutory rights explicitly state only faulty good/unfit for purpose are covered.

The X2 not being consistant enough is hardly grounds...

I hear you loud and clear re 'wait for the new GTX' but seeing reviews of a card better than the GT (the Ultra) being beaten by a decent margain = worthy upgrade imo.

I know I'll be getting the new next gen flagship but this interim period is killing me. I literally can not stand to play a game at anything below max res, max eye candy. It actually makes me angry!

Edit: Ham - I think you are right... The kicker is I could have had an ultra aaages ago for less than what they cost now!

I need to find a way of getting a refund, I could exchange at the same place for a BFG OC GTX but for £300, when I can get a 2nd hand one for ~£200.

Must get refund.

How on earth do I get them to accept this back? Just whip it out and gamble they accept it?

I'm going to look into this when I get home after work.

It is one review but the editors note at the end just seemed so honest it can't be a lie!

I need to see if all the other sited did use pre-set benchmarks or actual in game footage...

Edit:

Rast: Repped. As long as ticking the 'have you read and agree to the t&c's' hasn't negated my right to a refund. I hope not. I had 7 days, now I have... Ordered 2nd arrived 4th so do I have till the 11th or till the 9th? I think I better make a call!

I`m pretty sure no1 can put the waiving of rights in a "tick me". Well I spose they can, but they won`t count for anything.

"Tick here if u agree to give-up your rights as a UK citizen" - doesn`t exactly cut it.

Which on the other hand notes a few exceptions to the rule, which include CD/DVD and software where the wrappers are broken - would this mean other things where the wrapper is broken ? hmmm But it does mention about simply changing ur mind about the item, but then u wouldn`t open it or would u >.<

I'm getting FRAPS installed and I'm going to see for myself what the deal is...

LOL- Hatman, then I'd have 2 GT's!!!

Just to say, the card kept hard locking during Crysis and causing reboot... So they accept return for full refund so I'm back with my GT, wondering what to get

512 GTS

Old GTX

Stick with GT (boring, besides my buddy has kinda bought it lol)

"old" GTX/Ultra, and use cable ties to strap it in ur pc - so it`s a real pita to take it back out.

Hot-wax guns can come in handy for this ;)

lmao. I think i need a lock on my pc case, and the key is given to someone else, who doesn't live here lol

I can get a GTX for ~£200, same for 'new' GTS (512)... I've read a million reviews. None of these cards seem good enough.

That pretty much sums it up. The games aren't that great. The cards can't even run them maxed.

I might keep the GT at this rate...

Or just give up on PC's. Hmmm, I have some tests to run on this card. Something tells me crysis is corrupt...

complete lie

I hear the version of Crysis for the Mac runs approximately 35% faster (xeon x2 w/8800). Full candy on 1900x1200.

Be out in a few months.
