DFI SLI-DR Issues

Hi guys, u may be able to help me here. I pulled my CPU out last night to try an old mobo I had sitting around to see if it worked, which it did.

When I went to put the CPU back into my DFI the thing won't boot just stays on 4 red LEDs. Have I got this dreaded 4 LED issue?

I have an MSI board here I could use but no SLI header (mav!! lol).

Any help would b great.

Its on stock air btw.

I pressume you have tried the basics

Reseting the cmos and using just the one card and 1 stick of ram and 1 card?

Reset the CMOS, totally power down the system and try again - use one stick of RAM to re-boot - DOn't take out the battery.

Use CMOS reloaded to reload your overclocking settings.

All should be well then.

This is what happens to mine. If you goto DFI street, and look at the forums you will see quite a few people have the same problem, including me, and nothing seems to work.

With mine, if it starts when i first turn it on, no probs it will work fine.

If I have to restart windows thats fine as well, if however I need to do a power off restart then I know I will get the 4 leds.

I then have to wait between 1 and 3 hours with the power to the motherboard turned off, before restarting, then 9 times out of 10 it boots.

One thing I have noticed is when you turn on the motherboard after leaving it off, if the orange led next to the mem sticks stays on, it will boot. If it goes off straight away, it wont.

Sorry I cant give better advice.

remove the battery for the day and cmos reset should clear it

have you tried the FULL CMOS reset:

The proper Clear CMOS recovery. Not to be confused with a Normal CMOS Clear.

You can not use a USB keyboard for this procedure. You must use a PS2 keyboard.

You will need your manual to find the jumpers that must be changed.

If you skip or miss any step you must start again since the results will not be valid.

Remove power from the rig by pulling the plug or switching the PSU off.

Move the PC Speaker jumper to the ON position.

Remove the Battery.

Move the CMOS jumper to CLEAR.

Press the Start Button on the case or motherboard to drain the capacitors.

You may leave the board in this condition for as long as it takes to clear the CMOS. If a short 30 second clear or a 15 minute clear doesn't work, try an 8 hour clear.

Plug in a PS2 Keyboard.

Put one stick of RAM in the top orange slot marked DIMM2.

Move the CMOS jumper to Normal.

Replace the Battery.

Press and hold the Insert Key on the Keyboard.

Apply power to the rig by plugging the power in or using the switch on the PSU.

Press the Start Button to power the rig up.

When you hear the BEEP, release the Insert Key and press the Delete Key on the Keyboard.

Once you enter the BIOS set the DATE and TIME then Load Optimized Defaults.

Save and Exit.

Enter the BIOS again and set it up the way you want for your particular rig.

Tried the CMOS reset with power down yep. Tried 1 card. Havn't tried 1 stick of RAM yet had to run to work in a really bad mood.

I'll try putting stock coolers on everything and try it all over again. It's either the cards or the CPU thats dead, and I seriously hope its not the CPU cos its a Week 13

Make sure that the power lead is totally disconnected from the PSU - not just switched off

Well it's dead time for my Week 13 FX55. Didn't even get to see the cold of my new single stage so I'm absolutely gutted! The DFI board is most likely getting sold, the RMA FX55, and probably the 7800's.

I'm gutted to have to do it but I can't stand the fact that DFI make crap quality mobos but they are the ONLY mobos worth having for AMD if you want high benches.

So I am joining the ranks with Thickbrit, and I'm joining the Intel side. I didn't want to do it but someone has to help Thicky keep Intel in the EPUK tables.

I'm still coming mav, it's a different platform, but I'm still coming for you

Thats the spirit never give up, but leave my FX55 records intact

Having said that I am as gutted as you are mate, crying shame coz you had a real chance of competing with the FX57's (let alone FX55's) - I dont think either of us understand how it actually happened either, which amplifies the disappointment.

Still - Intel looking quite strong right now - I am just in the process of running 2 instances of superpi 32m to see how it compares against Yonah at similar clock speeds.

To be honest I am all benched out til the Super Single Stage arrives, can't get any more from the CPU with what I have, but also fear the cold bug will prevent me from uber scoring when I get it, c'est la vie.

The 7900's are CPU limited at present (so no rush for G80's just yet) and I need maximum dual core power (3.5ghz or higher) to go any further than I already have - or rivatuner to tweak what I have - other have gotten more with better cooling though so here's hoping
