DFI NF4 & 7800GTX Won't Load Windows

stocky

I press the on button, I can get into the BIOS everytime and have stuck everything to near stock. The problem is, that when loading up the monitor just goes to standby at the point when the Winodws XP icon screen should appear.

I actaully think that it loads up into Windows each time, but I just can't see it! I have tried different GPU's, but get the same each time.

Is this common on the DFI NF4 SLI-DR, and what is the cure!?

I would just take it all to bits and sell it all, but the plan is to just get some benchies in for the team, then sell the stuff :D

Going to try some different memory now, and report back to see if anyone has left any suggestions, cheers :)

You tried changing the socket the monitor is plugged into mate?

I had the problem of it finding the video but not getting any further. Turned out after speaking to mav cos I was running BH5 I forgot it's high voltage and shud be set at least 2.8v. I whacked an 80mm fan on the RAM and pused 3v thru it. Booted no probs then ;)

Yeh, tried that :(

Got 3.2V going through the RAM,

Tried all the Vid outs + on 3 different cards!

Amber light on mobo - what does this mean?

Just tried different RAM & slot (single stick)

All does the same thing :(

I believe the amber light means the board is off. They go red when on I think. TBH mate I never watch the LED's on my board I use the Front-X LED header cos my PC is hella loud with the side panel off and it's running 24/7 atm cos my download box fell down last week :(

Just did a bit of research, and the lights count down to 0 when the O/S loads...

Going to try a 6800 now...

Okay - Kind of good news :)

I'm now typing on the DFI nF4 SLi-DR with the 6800 in the slot. There are however no graphics drivers installed, so everything is jolty at the moment.

I'm guessing what is happening is a driver conflict, because it is at the point the card switches mode that the screen goes blank.

Others with the 7800GTX setup must have experienced this or similar?

I'm thinking of trying drivercleaner...

DriveCleaner PE has not helped - I tried removing all nVidia and ATi, but it hasn't changed a thing :(

Is this BIOS not compatible with the 7800GTX or something?

Okay folks - After roaming all over the DFI support forums I realised that nobody could help me...

So I decided the only thing I hadn't tried was the dreaded re-format :O

Anyhoo, I inserted the 7800 and began the re-format. It all went smoothly as should without any problems, which means I now have an X2 4800, and 7800GTX to get some benchies in for the team :D
