Hello all :wavey:

Well...i decided to open i new thread here in order to get some advice, because i been trying to get some help through my project build and i havent been having enough help, so perhaps a new thread help!!! I hope :wiggle:

So I am going to put here the hardware i am planning in buying soon, please advise me if the choice its too stupid.

MOBO: Asus Maximus III Formula

CPU: i7 860 2.80Ghz LGA 1156

GPU: 2X Asus GTX 285 OC MATRIX 1GB (What waterblock should i consider for it?)

RAM: I have no idea what DDR3 Dual channel to get. However i was planning to get 2 kits of 4GB 1600MHz. But what memory will be most appropriate? DHX? XMP? I really haven't got a clue... :noobsign:

In regards to the gpu, my biggest dream was to be able to get hold of an Asus Mars, but it seems to be pretty impossible mission for now. So i wil try to get 2x Matrix, but havent got the monez for 2 of them yet.

The price of the 285 is still pretty high and wont support DX11, for that ammount of money Id be looking at 2 5870's or even a 5890 tbh dudio. Really depends if it has to be Nvidia or not? o you really need 8gb of ram? Corsair do make some 2x4gb kits for i5.

So you wanna spend £600 on graphics cards, but can only afford one?

5870 would be the sensible choice.

860 is good, motherboard is ok, there is better or similar for less money.

You don't need 8GB, get a 4GB kit with decent latencies and speed.

Thanks for the help, I am still concerned in going ATI to be honest, I would rather spend more money on a gpu that can fold best, and as far i am concerned ATI is pretty lame for that?

folding comparinson performance chart

I will be mostly be using pc to do sketchup/cad/solidworks and folding when not, that why i wanted to focus on nvidia cards.

Now what do i do? Get cheper 285 with waterblocks, or would one 295 be a better idea when it comes to terms of folding?

To be honest i wouldnt change my gpu if i could find at least another twin for it, but the problem is that its impossible to find a twin, i serched everywhere and i didnt find anything. It would be actually cheaper to buy 2 other GTX 260 like the one i have. Problem is that they are so good that i can find another one.

Would a wait for the fermi to arrive be the best idea so far?

Which memory specification should i been looking at, there 4GB kits of dominator GT which pretty similar, one DHX and on XMP, but what th difference between them i dont really know... :(
