Deleting a dual-boot O.S.

Morning! I`ve not long had a dual-boot to play with 2nd HDDs and the I-RAM, but even though the other disks and the I-RAM arent installed, I still get a "choice" of what O.S. I boot to. I`ve selected (System Properties, startup and recovery) my active O.S. to boot to, to keep things going if I turn on and wonder off but how can I delete the empty O.S. option to get a direct boot?

Can I delete the 2nd O.S. option in startup and recovery? Will windows have a fit if I try that? (Dont wanna find out the hard way LOL)

Cheers!

Okay, go to Control Panel > Advanced > Startup and Recovery (settings button) > Default Operating System.

All the options are there. If you click the 'Edit' button you can delete the other OS so that it won't appear on Startup :)

EDIT: I have done this on a few occasions and it works ;)

Also, all boot options are stored in C:\boot.ini which is easily editable in notepad, or if you prefer a nice gui, type msconfig in run and its under boot.ini tab.

That's correct, I think clicking the 'Edit' button may actually open that same file (it's linked to it) - which is what you are actually editing anyway! :D

Does anybody else find it strange that the original BOOT info sometimes stays even after a format?

It stays if you install on a partition other than C, as it merges old info with new, except if you install over C then it places a fresh version..

Thats what I found with XP anyway!
