Cyberpunk 2077 will receive an Xbox Series X upgrade - Better yet, its a free upgrade

Well its more up to MS to allow free upgrades than it is CDPR. If MS said no, not much CDPR could do. They'd have to create many external ways to get it to work.

I just hope sony follows suit. They should their game sharing basically is already that. Games are tied to your account, not your specific platform(ie ps4 or ps4pro). They'd only have to do minor changes. Just make it downloadable across ps4 or ps5 devices.

Aye, I see a lot of current-gen games getting Xbox Series X updates, similar to the old Xbox One X and PS4 Pro updates. With the CPU changes, 60FPS versions of some games should be possible, or true 4K versions of other titles.

Yeah, making this work without Microsoft would be an issue, but there was no way that Microsoft wasn't going to do this. It would create a situation where Game Pass users would have gotten updated Xbox Series X versions when those who own the full game would get no upgrade.

One has to wonder what Sony's response is. Microsoft has set itself up to be the most consumer-friendly platform holder in the runup to next-gen.

I wonder which developers will charge for their Xbox Series X upgrades, if any. Will people pay for GTA V again again? I already know of people who bought that three times.

MS definitely would be stupid to not allow it. CDPR is just marketing themselves well but announcing it themselves. They know how to market themselves extremely well. That's part of the reason W3 is so beloved.

MS basically gave up current gen and halfway through started preparing for next gen. Was a wise move and seemingly they have so much preparation in place that's actually in gamers hands that if Sony doesn't match those features and services at launch are definitely hurting themselves.

I still think Sony will be fine but it won't be a landslide like last time. The difficult part is cloud related services. Sony doesn't have the experience or money to compete there. They ironically are working with MS (last reported at least) to get Azure services as a host for them. They could have gone for AWS but MS probably has more expertise for gaming and would make sense. Just as a competitor there's a lot of... Well... Conflict.

The funny thing is that Sony has PlayStation Now, one of the first cloud gaming services on the market. It launched in 2014, but Sony has never marketed it well or worked to give it mindshare when Stadia and Xcloud were announced.

Sony missed a big opportunity here. Nobody talks about PlayStation Now.

PS Now is forgotten for the reasons you said. I feel like they initially tried marketing it for PS Vita on the go play but that died and PS Now kinda just died with it. Could be remembering wrong.

But yes big missed opportunity. Gonna bite them in the butt now!
