Hi guys! Thanks for taking a look at my custom desk build. Here's a little back story on the build:
It all started when we decided to get a new bedroom set. We decided to go with a bigger bed, which meant no more room for my desk in the bedroom. So I set off on a mission to design a workspace in the basement. After toying around with different locations, I picked a spot, took some measurements, and launched my go to 3d rendering application. I had no idea what I wanted, but I knew I needed a large table top. After completely building the desk in 3d, something just didn't look right, it looked as though it was build for a very small person. Then it hit me, instead of putting the rig on the desk, I would build a shelf above the desk and put the rig up there. And so the real fun began...
The location was a challenge, as the way my basement was built, the walls were not very flat.
We had to put spacer boards in at the top, so that the bottom would clear in uneven surface.
After that, my friend and I hung the vertical supports and began the cross members. (I enlisted the help of a friend savvy in the art of woodworking to help where my abilities ended.)
We then built the top and began to brace it. My goal was to be able to sit on it, and it not move and inch.....It doesn't move at all.
A quick test fit of the top to ensure it came out as I had envisioned it.
Of course, since my new build was white (Check it out on the forums here!)I had to paint the desk white.
I set the top, and painted the shelf to match.
I intensionally left a gap in the shelf to allow for cable management.
I added backer boards behind the monitors to act as a channel for managing cables. I opted for boards as opposed to a single board to make assessing the cables easier, without having to remove all the monitors. I also added some LED lighting to accent the white.
The boards also acted as a place to anchor a monitor mount to, once I had added a 4th monitor.
Finally, it was complete. 1 more monitor to replace, and it will be completely done.....for now!
Thank you so much for checking out my desk and the story behind it. I hope you enjoyed and feel free to leave any feedback, both positive and negative.
