Custom Laptop

Sometimes friends and family ask if I can fix things for them. This was a bit beyond my abilities. My oldest nieces son says he stepped on it by accident. I think he got pissed off. They brought another laptop with it that would no longer boot. That one he admitted slamming down. That killed the hard drive, I have used everything you can think of to try to access the files, no can do. Many family pics are gone...back-up I tell them, but noooooo. I took the hard drive out of this one and put it in the other, did a reinstall of the OS. Look closely at the picture. I took the picture as is to see who can see the problem. I usually keep old stuff like this because the keyboard and motherboard/processor are still good. This is an Intel based G60, I had a friend give me an AMD based G60 I used the hard drive from for somebody else and then tossed it since the motherboard/processor had fried when her cat slept on it and it overheated. If I'd of kept that one I could have built a good Intel based G60 using the guts of this one. I hang on to EVERYTHING, but the ONE TIME I don't...damn!

The entire metal casing is warped, big dip in the middle, maybe screen broken and the hinges are seriously misaligned, plus the mouse key button is lose/stuck :p I get them all? :p

Got it! :)

The display is gone, it was shattered, it is just the empty bezel. The hinges are really bent and that left button is smashed. Also it is bent a little. The kid has a anger problem, I think he stomped on it on purpose. He needs that done to his ass.

I hooked it up using the VGA port and it did work, so I used the hard drive to fix the other laptop they brought. I'll probably take it apart, save the keyboard, and the good internals of it.

I try to help people that can't afford to pay to get their stuff fixed. I don't have the money to, just the know how and sometimes the salvaged parts.

Could be used as a media server, set up remote access and stick it in a cupboard somewhere....

Good idea. I don't have a use for something like that, but if I run across another hard drive, I could straighten it up and clean it up and find somebody that could use it. I guess it could be used with a monitor too...I know some people that could use it like that. The dead hard drive I replaced using the one out of this system is just out of warranty by a couple months.

Wow I actually got em all ;) haha. You're a kind guy :)

I just pictured it smothered in towels setting on fire...

That won't happen, I'll be sure not to give it to my Ex wife.

When she was studying for her nursing degree, she used to sit on our heated waterbed and put her laptop down on it. I told her many times not to do that, it was vented in the bottom. She wondered why it would shut down, it was the thermal protection stopping it from frying. After a few dozen times she listened.
