Current RAM requirements?

Was wondering if the RAM requirements for today and tomorrow have changed for normal use and gaming (no productivity)?

Is my 16GB 3333MHz still okay? Do I need 32GB 3600MHz (4x8 as I understand that 2 sticks of higher capacity are a strain on the memory controller)?

I agree, 16GB is plenty for now, and 3333MHz isn't slow either. Any gains from faster memory would be marginal in most cases.

I don't know what CPU you are running ATM, but you will likely be fine until the release of a DDR5 based CPU platforms with 16GB of 3333MHz DDR4.

Thanks Mark! An 8700K @ 4.9GHz

That's it's rated speed. I got mine during the memory price hike. Back then before Ryzen nobody really cared about memory speeds. So thought nothing of it. I won't be gaining all that much from it for games anyway.

It would have helped when I was doing my programming development work as I was basically at idle 10.5-11GB with my software just open. More speed to hurry up compiling/mathematical work and more capacity would have made it easier to keep chrome open with 20 tabs :D

So yeah I've dealt with it. Never an issue though. I'm only using a 8700k, GTX 1080 at 1440p. Memory is definitely not my bottleneck.

Ah like that. Me too, got it during the hike and paid double for it and there was almost none so I got the odd 3333MHz.

Ha ha yeah higher speed and more of it would've been nice with those workloads!

We've basically got the same system then. Funny
