CS:S problem

My friend has a HP Pentium 4 2.53GHZ, 512mb, 64mb GFX card and whenever he tries to play a game it lags horribly. The setting are on low and it lags like crazy! He had Warrock and it also lagged horribly. Is there anything he can do to fix it? I used Fraps and his average Fps in the game was between 1-5. I need some tips that dont involve money please.

you wont be able to play css on a computer like that without horrible lag.

unless you spend some money and tell him to buy a new graphics card(which is the only solution)

Yes you can. Ares has an older Dell with about the same specs and he used to play CS:S just fine. Also my friends computer is above the recomended specs to play CS:S.

the minimum spec requirement maybe but not the max.

is it onboards graphics or what? give me more detail but ime still pretty sure you will haveto spend money to play game with no lag.

cheers.

might want to check those reccommended specs again.

Recommended: 2.4 GHz Processor, 512MB RAM, DirectX 9 level graphics card, Windows 2000/XP, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection

There are the specs, and the gfx card is onboard but it is DX9.

you arent going to play css well with a low end cpu, 512 ram and onboard graphics, period.

haha there is your problem,no way are you going to be able to run css on onboard intel graphics i am suprised you even tried, tell your freind to buy a new pc.

oh and those intel graphics are not direct x 9 beleive me(more like 6 or 7 if anything cuz onboard intel gfx are useless)

Like i said Ares210 did on his Dell and they worked fine. You can I just think his computer is f***** up because he has so much useless crap on it.

ok maybe this will clear things up more for you.

i tried running css on an old machine cuz my main rig was down and i was desperate for a cs fix:p

it was p4 1.7ghz,256mb of sdram(like pc133) and a geforce 2 mx/mx400 64mb gfx card

css was not playable because 10 fps and lower when theres ppl infront of you is lag non stop9 i mean anything below 30-40 is laggy tbh)

which means no css for your freinds computer PERIOD!

a 6600gt,are you sure his board is not agp though?

even cheaper solution but less effective:

Add these in Counterstrike: Source > Properties > Set Launch Options

-dxlevel 70

-heapsize 262144

Then add these to his config and make it read only:

cl_ejectbrass 0 // _disables shells flying out of guns_

cl_forcepreload 1

cl_phys_props_enable 0 // _disables trash and cans etc_

cl_phys_props_max 0 // _disables trash and cans etc_

cl_radartype 1 // _solid radar_

cl_ragdoll_physics_enable 0 // _disables dead bodies_

cl_show_splashes 0 // _disables splashes when in water_

fps_max 101 // _caps FPS_

mat_bloomscale 0

mat_bumpmap 0 // _disables bumpmapping_

mat_clipz 0 // _lowers water quality_

mat_fastnobump 1 // _faster bump mapping_

mat_fastspecular 1 // _fast specular lighting_

mat_mipmaptextures 1 // _texture quality decreases with distance_

mat_hdr_enabled 0 // _disables high dynamic range lighting_

mat_hdr_level 0 // _disables high dynamic range lighting_

mat_picmip 2 // _lower texture quality--set between 0 and 2_

mat_specular 0 // _disables specular lighting_

mat_trilinear 0 // _disables trilinear filtering_

mat_wateroverlaysize 16 // _lowers water quality_

mat_vsync 0 // _disables vertical synchronization_

mp_decals 50 // _how many bullets etc will be shown_

muzzleflash_light 0 // _disables muzzleflash_

r_avglight 0 // _disables average lighting_

r_cheapwaterend 1 // _worse water rendering_

r_cheapwaterstart 1 // _worse water rendering_

r_decal_cullsize 2 // _lower texture quality at distance_

r_decals 0 // _disables player sprays_

r_drawdetailprops 0

r_drawflecks 0// _disables bullet impacts_

r_drawmodeldecals 0 // _disables decals on models_

r_dynamic 0

r_eyes 0 // _removes eyes from player models_

r_lightaverage 0 // _disables average lighting_

r_lightinterp 0

r_lod 3 // _adjusts model quality--set between -5 and 5_

r_occlusion 0 // _disables occlusion--lowers image quality but gains FPS_

r_propsmaxdist 100 // _lower object fading distance_

r_renderoverlayfragment 0

r_rootlod 2 // _lower overall game detail level_

r_shadows 1 // _set to 0 to disable shadows (not recommended)_

r_teeth 0 // _removes teeth from player models_

r_waterforceexpensive 0 // _disables high-quality water_

rope_averagelight 0 // _disables average lighting on ropes_

rope_smooth 0 // _disables antialiasing on ropes_

rope_subdiv 0

rope_wind_dist 0 // _disables wind effects on ropes_

And if his CPU supports any of these add them too (CPUz will tell you if it does under "Instructions:")

r_mmx 1
