GTX980 low fps in most games.

Agree, had an fx4100 with ahd7950 when BF4 came out - truly terrible performance and very low FPS. For that game, a change to a fx6300 sorted the issue. It's almost definitely going to be that CPU holding things back.

Intel i7 4790k based system for best results, if someone is going to spend £400+ on a GPU.

I know a lot of guys on this forum say an i5 is fine but there are games that can use the extra an i7 gives.

The question is though is not the tiny performance increase. It's more of is it down to the extra $100(or whatever currency). I'd say it's not. If you have the spare cash after spec'ing the rest of the rig then i'd say yeah. Just not at the expense of a higher end gpu or a bigger ssd.

I have noticed a few games being a bit more smooth with Hyperthreading on but when I turned it off *Simulating an i5* I could notice a tiny tiny bit of a difference but nothing that I would stress about.

i5 4690K and GTX 980, Winning combo, i7 only if you really want to feel special ^_^
