Crysis 3 single player what are you running at ?

The 480's are water cooled, so heat really isn't an issue thankfully. He doesn't seem to be able to go over 855mhz on the cores with any degree of stability though. Possibly unlocking the voltage so he can push harder would help (if you can do this with 480's) - I know my 570's were limited to 1.1v in afterburner so I stuck to this, though it was an option to unlock to go higher - he stuck to the safe side like me.

What do you mean by "proper" 3d? We enabled the "driver" option in game as well as turning on his 3d vision, for proper alternate-frame rendering with active glasses - worked great. Didn't use any of that side-by-side or interlaced shit.

Just reinstalled the drivers and set the game up again, now with the same settings as before, i get about ~90FPS and when it really gets heavy ~76FPS, ive seen it dip to ~50FPS randomly, but it never stays there too long!

From what I read Crysis 2 and Crysis 3 use a 3D effect and not full 3D.

Crysis 1 turned everything into 3D and that's why it had really good pop out with the blades of grass. Sadly when you do it like that it costs at a performance level. Even on 480 SLI I was lucky to get 18 FPS with everything on max and 3D enabled.

Crysis 3 has some other 3d options such as side-by-side and Interlaced, but if you set it to "driver" it bascally does nothing until to enable 3d Vision. Then it's full and proper 3D as you'd expect. NV Drivers can force 3d in any game for the most part, though sometimes you get oddities where developers have "cheated" and something isn't correctly internally rendered in 3d, so 3d vision cannot place it properly. Generally though most things look great, and there are plenty of tweaks available.

So, yes, how we ran in Crysis 3 is running in "Full 3d", just as Skyrim and other stuff runs in Full 3d via the NV drivers.

Erm, no, we did not get an FPS that low in C3 I guess its just better optimised than C1, the game played really well. We tested it in 2d first in the opening level and the game played pretty well. Only once inside did we enable 3d - admittedly inside was easier on the GPU's - and it only gives a slight fps hit. Remember, with 3d enabled in the drivers the GPU's don't have to entirely render TWO scenes - i.e. DOUBLE the GPU load - rather they use much of the same data and just offset things left or right (very simple explanation, there's a bit more to it lol) - basically we measured approximately a 20% GPU hit from enabling 3d in the titles we tried.

I'm still shocked you were seeing 18fps - we didn't see that at all in C3, though the engine is newer and better optimised as you'd expect. We experienced full, effective 1080p 3d. Remember, we used FXAA though, which is the easiest on the GPU's & vRam. Also, NV cards are particularly good at FXAA apparently, due to it originally being some NV thing. Maybe that's why it also generally looks better with FXAA to us.

We never actually tried Crysis 1 in 3d, I'll ask him to, maybe it's one of the few games that gets a little glitchy in 3d. I'd have expected 2x 480's to manage it with ease though.

EVGA GTX 680 @ 1228/3402, 1080P, Running everything at max apart from AA which I have on FXAA, Average FPS is 59 and doesn't go much lower which pleasently surprised me :)

Holy God! I just bought this last night and fired it up for the first time. On max settings, the opening scene when Prophet is first released, Im at 15-20 fps!!! I have to turn AA completely off, Textures Resolution to High, AF to 1x and everything else to Medium to get into the 40's on that opening scene!

I turned it off cause I aint playing at that low a setting. I think Ive finally, FINALLY been pushed over the line and will finally upgrade my 5870. Cant be playing games on Medium settings. Geez. Oh well, on to Newegg to scour for a deal.

Mine felt silky smooth until I reached the opening level of "Welcome to the Jungle" I think it's called. I used the area where you have to clear the mines before proceeding as my "bench" area, as it'd been the hardest on the system up to that point. Oddly, I managed to get the very tough intro sequence running very well indeed & I thought that would be tougher with all the weather effects, wet surfaces, reflections etc.

My GPU's were busy, but my CPU seemed to stick at 85% load on all cores. After running my little utility this jumped to 95%+ per core and gave me around a 5-8 fps boost in this areas hardest places.

FYI: I'm using FXAA in the game, as I think it looks pretty good, but I also apply 8xSSAA in the Driver Profile which really sharpens things up nicely. My FPS is usually v-sync locked at 60 but the level mentioned above sees it dip below that.

I'm well aware that my aging 2500k, even at 4.6ghz, is very much the weak link here. I am considering getting maybe a 3930k (with new mobo, ram and CPU block) but had originally planned to wait until possibly Ivy Bridge E before upgrading. Still, that's before one of my 570's became unstable and I got the 680's.

Id wait til Haswell hits in the next couple months. Your 2500K is hardly a weak link especially at 4.6 GHz. That's still a TON of CPU horsepower even with a pair of GTX680's.

Isnt the crysis series really just to show off the Crytek engine?

I loved the first one second one was pretty rubbish imo have yet to play 3 but I have no doubt I will

Like all Crysis games Crysis 3 has flashes of brilliance. Crysis (the original) was very hit and miss for me. In some ways it did things that no other game had and bits of it were really cool, yet it seemed to lose its way as it went on. I really wasn't a fan of the alien bits but the fighting bits against the Koreans was awesome.

I really liked the bit where you had to get to warm spots to stop yourself freezing..

what the heck is wrong with you. graphics aren't that important. also what does it tell me about the quality of crysis 3 if you refuse to play it on low settings?

Get a life. For one I was joking around. For two, Im not refusing to play anything. I love awesome graphics like those in the Crysis games and such. Its part of the great thing about being a PC gamer If I wanted mediocre graphics, Id be a console gamer. I like them, sue me.

Crysis 3 may be the best looking game ever and I want to enjoy the graphics so Im going to wait til I get a proper GPU that can handle it so I can enjoy all the eye candy rather than slog thru it on low settings. Where's the crime in that?

I swear, some people just look for something to argue about.

"get a life" i never thought i'd read something like that on here.
enjoying graphics is one thing, but not playing a game because you can't play it on max settings? that's just over the top. you have a 5870, what did you expect.
for me there is more to a game than graphics.
do whatever you like.

Jesus. I NEVER said I refuse to play the game. And I NEVER said I dont understand why my 4 year old 5870 cant play. I even explained it in the last post. I want to play it in all its glory and so Im going to wait til I get a better video card so I can enjoy it. Whats so hard to understand and why is that a problem for you?

2) you said this

how am i supposed to know that it is sarcasm? from what i've read, you play games for the graphics and i couldn't understand that.

Yeah, my bad. My wife says Im going thru menopause so Im a little moody. Ill be happier this afternoon. About to head down to Microcenter to pick me up a nice shiny new GPU. :D

So now the decision to get the GTX670 or cough up another $100 and go all out with a GTX680. Hmmmm....

bro for us its MAN-O-PAUSE lol and I'd drop the extra 100$ for now and later if it starts bending a knee get a second one.
