Crucial M4 or not?

I got 2 x Vertex (1) 120GB in Raid at the moment but recently it seems one of them is causing issues which result in system shutdowns.

Since i read a LOT of bad about any OCZ SSD lately i'm looking for something else rather than going thru RMA and get another poor thing. Also i don't think i'm gonna bother with SandForce.

Seeing the Intel 320's are getting a little old by now i ended up with a Crucial M4. Does anyone have experience with these drives, cuz after reading some reviews Price/Performance wise they are very good. Just want to know i don't end up with another bad SSD. I'm aware that the Write speeds of the Crucial arn't as fast as an OCZ or Corsair, but i care more about reliability.

I did dig up some prices and it seems that going with a single 256GB would be cheaper. Ofcourse going 2x 128GB RAID0 would increase my Read Speed but i don't really feel that's worth the trouble.

So just want to know if Curcial is a reliability SSD to go for.

They're supposed to be awesome mate.

Also consider the Kingston HyperX range.

Funnily enough I was reading a rave review about these drives yesterday. They have recently released a new firmware version 0009 which has bumped the speeds a fair bit.

Do you guys think that the lower write speeds on these drives in comparison to say the Vertex 3 would be noticeable in any way?

I haven't got one, but I'm thinking the real world performance wouldn't be too far off the SSD's with higher write speeds. The average read and writes are what matter and I think the M4 is on par with similarly prices SSD's (at least after the firm ware update).

I just ordered a Curcial M4 256GB. Had posted this on more forums and basicly they all say the same:

"Stop reaiding this post and buy one now"

I got the 128GB a few months back, on the 0009 f/w version, it's amazing. It just gets the job done at some crazy speeds, BF3 maps loading up in a matter of seconds, it's unreal. Not had a single issue with mine, and not much performance degradation while the capacity fills up. Check out my project log I think there are some figures in there.

Just got my Crucial M4 256Gb. It came with 0009 already, so that saved me updating trouble aswell

So in real world use, what difference do you think that the IOPS make 20,000 vs 50,000 vs 85,000 (M4 64GB - M4 256GB - Force GT)?

Funny thing is when i had the 2x Vertex in RAID0 (550 Read/ 335 Write) they got a 7.6 Windows score. Now with this single M4 i got 7.8 heh.

mmmm

If I was buying now I would be kinda leaning towards a small Force GT....

IOPS irl shouldn't make too much of a difference, to me the price is a big factor, plus the M4 is reliable as anything
