i have a CRT moniter thats about 7 years old i think, its on pretty much most of the day how long will it last me?

They can last quite a while. In the build room where i work we have some old ones knocking around that are about 10yrs old and they still work fine.

It depends on the quality of the monitor i guess. My parents have a compaq one that has started going blue/green round the edges and its only 4 years old.

Yup, totally depends on build quality... I still have a few monitors that are probably nearing 10 years old and they still work like new. The POS Sylvania CRT that I'm using on my main rig is only like 3 years old and it's starting to get a bit whacked out already, i hate that damn thing. Hopefully I can get my damn ImageQuest soon!

An old rig of mine had a cheapy CRT monitor, 3 years old or so and the screen was going green.

Got a ViewSonic on this rig, couldn't be happier with it :)

Yup I have about a 5 or 6 year old 21" professional gfx design ViewSonic CRT back in Washington and that sucker still has a picture like the day it was taken out of the box. It's an absolutely amazing monitor. I thought about getting another one for back here but they're a bloody fuckin fortune, like $550-600.
