With the release of the PCI-Express system bus being at least 3 years ago, Creative Technology has finally decided to utilize the bus with one of their audio cards. Read the news article for more details.

Relieved that sound card manufacturers are finally using PCI-E? Or did PCI fair just fine? Discuss what you think below...

Oh thank god its only x1, I was going to say 'who is going to give up slots that could be used for graphics cards and PhysX when there is nothing wrong with PCI sound cards'

Nice work on all the news btw :)

More fun to make you sweat and have to read the article to see it's x1 :p I thought the same exact thing at first.

And thanks mate :)

Looks really goofy with a connector that small lol.
Images of Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio for PCI Express x1 bus, which have been published by several web-sites, reveal that the card carries one relatively small X-Fi chip, an unknown audio codec, the lack of onboard memory buffer, relatively small number of capacitors, the absence of MIDI port and the presence of S/P DIF connectors and five analog connectors to attack 7.1-channel audio system.
No good eh? I believe anything under the Xtreme Music is worthless.

It works well as a sound card just to take stress off your processor and it also has much better sound than onboard. It just happened to be the display model.

whats so good about it?

will we get better sound?

:eh:

No, lmao. Not out of this model at least. It's a re-branded SB Live 24-Bit, gone PCI-E. Oh, with X-Fi drivers of course.

About time they go PCI - Epress!

I used to wonder what that slot was for.. nobody has developed and cards for it I swear!

Will we see any performance increase? Im sure we will see a Price increase! :(

This is cool, good to see someone finally getting behind the 1x slots.

I had read that the reason Creative weren't releasing sound cards for PCI-Express what that the overhead was to high and it was either very hard or impossible to do. Seeing as they have a card now it must not be impossible, but we may never see a high end card on PCI-Express.

Between my onboard and my friends Xtreme Music the only difference i could tell was on Beefy2 when i got his stupid Dell to recognize the card. Then i heard the game crank up more voices and you could hear alot more going on around you. On every other game like FEAR with the Advanced HD option i couldnt really tell a difference between his X-FI and my onboard. I do tell ya though, utilizing the PCI-E bus will finaly give you an even more advantage on performance.
