Asus have recently release a lot of new products aimed at the top and mid-end of the market, but a few days ago, they announced a new budget motherboard to be hitting the shelves some point soon.
Welcome to the ASUS B85M-Gamer.
This new budget board sit squarely between the H81 and the Z97 chipset, and according to Asus' press release, has gaming features, and is aimed at those users who are looking towards the budget end of gaming system with it likely to paired with nVidia GTX 750 (Ti) or Radeon R7 GPUs and with the CPU's likely to be i3's, i5's or possibly even the Pentium K Anniversary Dual core.
As you see from the image below, the motherboard comes in the mATX flavour, and has a black PCB finished with a subtle amount of red flashing on the heat sinks, and a separate daughter board added on for the sound card, shown on the image by the red highlighting around the SupremeFX chip and AAFP port all the way up to the audio output jacks on the rear.
As you can see from the above image, the board comes with a single PCI-E 3 x16 slot, and 2 PCI-E 2 x1 slots, and has space to accommodate 4 DDR3 ram sticks for a maximum of 32GB, and also supports Intel's XMP profiles. The B85M is Haswell and Devils Canyon compatible, although those who are buying this board, aren't likely to be adding a 4690k or a 4790k to this.
The B85M-Gamer, comes with 4 SATA III ports (Supporting upto 6Gbit/s) and 2 SATA II (supporting upto 3Gbit/s) ports, and comes complete with 2x USB 3 and 2x USB 2 connections on the rear of the motherboard, along with 2x USB 2 headers, a single USB 3 header connections on the bottom of the motherboard.
You don't really get the bells and whistles of the Z97 chipset on this board, but it does come complete with onboard graphics (via the Intel HD Graphics intergrated into the CPU), and comes with a 15 pin VGA monitor port and HDMI connection also, so it isn't lacking in this department, and has the Intel Gigabit ethernet port with LANguard ESD protection.
Below are the specs from the press release.
