Creating a NAS box

Just thought i'd post about this, if anyone wants to turn an old pc into a NAS box, then i found these.

Its a 4 port SATA RAID PCI card. (supports raid 0/1/0+1/5/10). I just brought one, £23!! Nearest i've found is one for £70 but it didnt o raid 5 which is what im after.

Simple load up Freenas as the OS and your all set!

EDIT: there also hot-plug compatible

You can get those for £15 from dabs, dabs value or something. Good if you need a few spare ports.

there not the same, the ones on ebay are the updated version that supports more raid variants.

Really? I thought they were exactly the same. I know the dabsvalue one can do raid5, you just need to download the drivers for it.

you know, they might be completly different. Ebay is a 4+1 port (1 being external). Doesnt look like dabs one has the external one.

Good point, probably worth the extra couple of pound just in case you ever need to connect one externally.

Good price, paid 26 quid for mine 6 months ago.

RAID 5 works like a treat with windows, had a few issues with linux
