Crashing on some steam games.

A friend of mine has encountered problems when trying to play Team Fortress 2 or Portal recently. He begins to load the games, and gets to the fuzzed out background and the loading text is shown. After a while, he hears a click from the computer itself, not the speakers, and his screen goes black instantly. After a short pause, it fades to blue, but it is not a normal BSOD, as there is no text. Merely three horizontal rows of white lines appear, which are vertical, and of varying size. there is no order to the lines except their formation in rows, they seem to be completely random. He then has to manually shut the computer down with the power button.

I have reinstalled his catalyst control centre suite and driver for his ati xpress200 intergrated motherboard gfx chip. This did not help.

He is running an AMD of some kind, though not sure what, and i cant seem to fix the problems.

Can anyone help?

last help i gave was shunted.. thus.. figure it out yourself from my standpoint.. sorry
