Cracked iPad Mini 2 Glass

Hi guys,

Does anyone have any recommendations on replacing an iPad mini 2 screen? Apple say that they'd charge £206 to do it which is basically how much a new one costs.

The screen appears to be fine so it looks like its just the glass on the front.

I'm located in the Sheffield area if anyone can recommend a place that will do it.

I'd also considering doing it myself if anyone can recommend a good/reputable source for parts.

Cheers!

https://www.ifixit.com/ has teardowns and detailed guides for most phones/tabs/etc and they have excellent toolkits. They tell you what to look out for, whta tools you will need and sell psare parts for most fixes for most products. You can use them as a reference for buying the spare parts elsewhere too.

You can get a replacement digitiser on feebay between 15 - 20 notes (UK) fitting them is easy peezy, plenty of youtube vids explaining "how to" I prefer the cheese wire method. My only tip is Take your time.

Yeah I've watched a few YouTube tutorials and the common theme seems to be ease everything apart..

I just need to find a reputable ebay seller and some of the 'tools' required.

I think I may know ago who knows a lot about phone tablet repairs, il ask him where he gets his bits from and il pass it on :) you know I may even have a go fixing it myself..... Eventually.

I get all my Apple and Samsung spares from mechanic_warehouse (163168), and all I normally use for removing screens (digitisers) are a hairdryer and a length of fine wire, and deffo go slow and ease that bad boy off.

No worries, I must say it's in these cases I actually like Apple products, ooh I felt a bit sick admitting that. But seriously:

Apple = Expensive and cheap to repair.
Samsung = Expensive and expensive to repair.
HTC = Expensive and expensive to repair.
Sony = Expensive and expensive to repair.

Still it bugs me how expensive Apple products are considering the parts breakdown prices.

Interesting insight. I assume it's the popularity and lack of variation that helps drive down the repair costs.

As long as I've been repairing phones it's always been the same, right back to the original iPhone.

So I got the broken digitizer off and plugged the new one in but I managed to break the LCD screen in the process..

Ordered a new LCD screen for £30 - just fitted it works brilliantly - all glued back together.
However, I think I removed some tape from the digitizer cable that shouldn't have been removed so now when you press the home button it interferes with the touch screen... :(

All in all though - it was fixed for ~£48.

I hate when that happens, you take ages to heat and slowly remove the digitiser, clean the glue off and apply the new screen to find you've cracked the lcd , but still £48 is tiptop compared to £129 you'd have to pay for a Galaxy Tab alternative.

Im late to the party here, but for anyone else who needs in the future, I can recommend a shop called replacebase http://www.replacebase.co.uk

I have used these many times in the past for various phone parts for everything thing from iphones to Nokia Lumina's.
