CPU Upgrade

OK finally getting ready to upgrade my cpu finally and I'm torn between which to buy. Current specs in sig.

I have a mobo that will unlock hidden cores so that's a plus towards the BE side of the quads. But in reality what difference will it make over a true hex core? And if hex core is better then why the 1090t when the 1100t is only 40$ more? and a higher clock to start with. Just been over and under whelmed by all the reviews I have seen/read. My mind is still not sure lol.

So please post your opinion as I truly am wondering what everyone thinks.

i think the low price difference is because they will both overclock to about the same speeds so most went for the 1090 and spent the difference on cooling.

i didnt think any x4 unlocked to a x6 as they use diferent cores so that feature is only of any real use with the lower end cpu, sempys that are athlon x2s and athlon x2s that are really x4s.

First off, Phenom II x4 uses Deneb architecture while Phenom II x6 uses the Thuban architecture. They are built on different designs, meaning the X4s can't be unlocked to unlocked to X6s, because the X4 only have 4 cores to begin with.

When it comes to the difference between the X6 CPUs, there is no real difference between them really. They only have a different factory clock, so at the end of the day some good old overclocking will mitigate any difference between the chips. BUT! higher factory clocks could mean a better chip, so your chances of getting a golden chip with a higher binned cpu (the 1100T) is greater than that of a 1055T. I personally just opted for the 1055T take a silicon lottery, just tune up the bus speeds, the proper way to overclock AMD CPUs.

ok cool I thought it was just the x4 BE cores that were unlockanle lol I didnt realize they were not included to the party

hahaha So now to consider the hexes I'm still a tad on the fence on which to get but its looking more like the 1090t. I just rewatched Tom's vids on the 2 and basically he says for 100MHz they aint worth it lol. He was more impressed with the 1090t however he also stated he thinks he may of gotten a golden chip. So I am pretty certain I'll go 1090t unless someone else ahs any input that'll sway me. I'll also be going ssd finally and so all together no matter which I do get I know I'll see huge changes once again.

Thank You all for the input but keep it coming.

The PII X4 970 is based on the Thuban core so it could be unlocked to X6. Get either the 1055T or a BE(1075, 1090 if you just want to raise the multiplier) I prefer the 1055 it decently overclocks, is cheaper.

yes I do want multi control I feel its my limiting factor on my current cpu as I cant change it from 14multi. All I have is fsb and once I hit around 265 it wavers. I feel if I could lower the multi I could get higher fsb. And the price difference between all of them is not an issue

1055 is 179$

1075 is 189$

1090 is 199$

1100 is 239$

unfortunately the 970 is Deneb core not Thuban and it also comes in at 179$

AMD Phenom II X4 970 Black Edition Deneb 3.5GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Desktop Processor HDZ970FBGMBOX

Thanks for the input though

Go for the 1090t,and use saved money to buy a better cooler like noctua nh-d14.

3.8-3.9ghz > you will need more increassing volts.

Its for the better to hold temps below 55c

Yep 1090T all the way (I have it). In MY opinion, the 110T is overpriced when compared to the 1090T because all it has is an extra 100MHz - that's not really anything. It's like exactly the same chip thats just got a higher factory set clock (stock speed).

All of the AMD hex cores are pretty damn good for their price tbh.

http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K10/AMD-Phenom II X4 970 Black Edition - HDZ970FBK4DGR.html The HDZ970FBK4DGR is based on the thuban core, while the HDZ970FBK4DGM has a deneb core. xxxR can be unlocked to x6 xxxM cant. CPUZ recoznizes both as deneb and I would guess retailers don’t bother having two different products.

lol I am sorry I am not doubting you but I am still not seeing it listed as thuban ur link says Platform Leo Processor core ? Zosma I am still confused lol even my google search didnt turn up 2 different cores but your link does show it. ( after I searched around a lil. Man oh man lol

Here you go Zosma derivate of Thuban. But the HDZ970FBK4DGR isn’t widely available, guess only OEM.

OK THANKS i SEE IT NOW

damn caps lol thanks for all that ciksas I'll look around and see if I can find one lol might be fun 2 play with.

Just remember that core unlocking with any AMD CPU isn't a guarantee by any means. You can always try it, but it doesn't always work.

Just sometimes.

Out of four that I have unlocked, three were stable at stock speeds and only two overclocked properly while all cores were unlocked. The fourth one unlocked, but was unstable unless I under-clocked it.

If you want 4 cores, buy four cores. Same with Hex core CPU's.
