So my corsair PSU broke on me so thought it would be time to upgrade. so brought a Corsair AX750. I've just installed it and fan is not spinning and it shuts down after 4 seconds after I switch the power on. is there any fixes or is it time RMA.

umm the AX line has a built in fan control 3 settings off 50% and 100% My new AX850 the fan only spins under load I had to run a benchmark to make it spin lol. This is not a defect mate. its by design

Hehe yeah thats it. I kinda misunderstood what he said. I thought the whole psu shuts down after a few seconds.

the fan will spin for self-diagnostics (a few seconds at boot), but then powers off..... it will only spin when under load.

the PSU has also many safety features.... if something attached to it is defective it will power off (saving other components).

the only thing that some AX models do that is annoying is 'pop', but corsair are sooo good that they will even replace those that do.

Dont laugh but I used the wrong 8 pin for the CPU so every time I started up my PC the CPU was getting no power so it would just shut down. I really need to read the manual but because my PC was out of action for 2 weeks, I just wanted to get it all up and running.

You were lucky, sometimes mixing up PCIe 8 pin and CPU pin would lead to a fizzle and pop.

There were two 8 pin connectors I was just unlucky and chose the wrong one.

you have now made me check my 8pin mobo connectors lol I can see how ya mixed them up I'm going to have to check things out now as they are both 8 pin wired but one uses the second 12pin pci-e port on the psu deleting the option for sli if you have a mobo that needs both 8pins if thats the case ur option is get a 1200 lol

My comp is running but lol I'm off to research it lmao

Ok lmao I have it right (thought I did) heres a link that might prove useful

AX series PSUs are silent unless they get stressed over a couple hundred Watts, I don't believe I've ever been able to hear the PSU, the case fans and GPU will get louder than the PSU when the PC is under load.

I only feel that's the case with the units build on a Seasonic platform. The AX1200 is not that quiet. But the AXX850 we're on about here should be.

AX 1200 has a bigger fan (140mm) compared to the AX 850 (120mm) because it's a bigger PSU, all the AX series are quiet anyway.
