i haven't done a build log before, but then again i never had anything impressive to begin with, always upgraded slowly and never before owned intel, my current rig (in sig) is starting to lack CPU grunt... so i figured an upgrade is in order.

i have orderd all of the parts, not all are here so i will just be dropping by teasers before i reveal the final spec to you all :)

we will start off with the motherboard + ram, its an ASRock X79 Extreme9 motherboard with 16gb of samsung 32nm Green 1600mhz! (all will be apparent in the overclock stage)

The ram is TINY, i wont run into any clearance issues with this stuff thats for sure!

it doesnt even stick over the clips!

all looks very pretty, i wonder what CPU will be arriving?

it came with this nifty 4 core soundcard and network all in one (who knows how good it is though)

and finally the cooler, a H100i with corsair SP120 quiet edition fans

*alot of things still have the clear plastic on so will look too shiny / distorted*

MORE TO COME IN THE COMING DAYS! i just couldn't contain my excitement any longer :D

Looks good so far although as you're using x79 I'm guessing you'll be doing ram intensive tasks, rendering etc. doesn't this mean the ram could get a little warm without any form of heat spreader? I may be wrong but just wondered

it will be mainly for video encoding, with ofc gaming on the side im hoping the ram will be fine, if not i have been in talks with a certain company to send me some heatspreaders that i can stick onto it (hoping to keep them as clean as they are now though, but as they are 30nm they should run alot cooler in theory)

Well I look forward to seeing the end result! Would be interesting to hear what you have to say about the enclosed sound card too

its finally finished, really pleased with the outcome + current overclocks, it renders like a beast!

the case arrived, its a corsair 650D, i got this seccond hand but its near perfect!

i decided to re-use my intel 520 120gb SSD from my old build for boot device

anyway, i got the motherboard + cpu cooler all mounted inside, very nice

next i put in my old 6950 2gb (still waiting for my 680 :( ) also put in my soundblaster, BUT MORE ON THAT LATER

then it was onto abit of cableling with my PSU (yes it is complete overkill.....for now)

and around the socket area, very clean if i do say so myself :D

finally a shot of below the GFX card you can see the gameblaster more clearly now.

overall i think it turned out pretty sexy, a nice colour scheme going (not sure if i should stick in my white cold cathodes ) and should look even better with a full black 680 to boot.

ONTO OVERCLOCKING!

well, abit of a play in the bios (took ALOT of getting used too thats for sure) i managed to get this: http://valid.canardpc.com/2622075

stable 4.5ghz overclock @ 1.3v (a tad high but i havent tried decreasing voltage yet) i also overclocked the ram to 10-10-10-28 @ 1.45v and 1866mhz everything feels alot more snappy than my previous AMD setup.

and just to finish, camera pictures aren't the best, lighting was poor but once its 100% complete im going to take it to my friends light tent to see what shots he can get ;)

i ran out of space, but this will just be about the gameblaster.

overall it seems VERY nice, (coming from an asus xonar D2 7.1) it lacks 7.1, as it only has 5.1 itself, the software is clunky, as is the asus. takes alot to get used too but i would honestly say that when using headphones it DOES sound alot better than the xonar (maybe due to the built in amp) it is quite bass heavy, but that can easily be turned down along with alot of other settings.

it has something called crystal voice and noise canceling, via skype and other recorded methods we couldn't hear a difference between the xonar and the gameblaster (WHICH IS A VERY GOOD THING)

it also has a lan port for some wierd reason, no faster than onboard but seems to be dedicated as CPU loads are 1-2% lower when maxing bandwith on each on my home network, it is suppost to increase ping in games but it does not.

overall (i say that too much :( ) i would give it a 9/10 and the xonar 8/10 [NOTE: I HAVE ONLY EVER USED ONBOARD AND THESE TO HEADPHONES, NOTHING ELSE SO I CAN'T COMPARE IT TO ANYTHING ELSE]

I have to retract my earlier comment regarding the Samsung green ram modules. Saw some other reviews on it elsewhere and that stuff is amazing. Congrats on completing the build, looks boss!!
