Corsair H70 for i7 3820?

Dear Forum Members,

I just got a new ASUS p9x79 Board and bought a i7 3820 for it.
Now i have a question. Since i do not have a CPU Cooler yet.
Will the H70 be up to the job to keep this processor cool?
What temps can i expect with OCCT/Prime95 running?
Is there any other cooler you recommend with a max price tag of 50 euro's?

Greetings, paul

Guess it'll do but the H60 2013 Edition would be better for about the same price.

Are you doing any overclocking?

Well, I think i will bump it up to 4Ghz. But nothing more. I can also get a h80 for 30 euro's. So will the H60 2013 be better than the H80?

Greetings, Paul

The H80 will be better cause it has a thicker rad. With the other 20 euros you could buy a Twin Pack of Corsair SP120 (QE) fans and you'll be all set :)

I had an H100 (2 fans in pull) running on my 3820 that's mildy OCed to 4.3ghz, and it worked very well. My temps maxed out at about 62C, CPU at 1.276v. If the H70/80 is anywhere near that, you'll be fine.

Wasted your money on a 3820.. better off with a 3770k/4770k tbh....

Depends on features he wants/wanted though doesn't it.
Anyway - telling people they've bought the wrong things already isn't very helpful - especially when you haven't given him any advice on the question he's asking.

Personally, I wouldn't be getting an H70. From reading the posts on here, it seems your 3820s run a lot cooler than my 3960x (which is understandable I guess), but I'm having a few thermal issues with mine. I'd still be looking for a high end air cooler over an H60/70/80. Performance is pretty similar between all of those and the NH-D14, and the D14 should be significantly quieter.

If you can push to an H100/H100i or another similar AIO with a 240mm rad, I'd do that.

Well,

1. Obviously you're wrong.. I got the motherboard for almost nothing. The CPU costed me 175 euro. So no, you're wrong.

2. We are not talking about money here. We are talking about a cooler. This information is useless.

3. I love the 3820 since it has way better PCIe support and overclocking capabilities. And i don't want shitty Intel HD graphics in my CPU.

For the others,

I think i will buy the h100i or h100. It depends on how cheap i can get it. Thanks for the info:)

1. Never stated that. Otherwise i would have not said that due to the awesome deal it was obtained for.
2. Nothing is ever useless.
3. You want better PCI/e support yet you're worried about integrated graphics? Also I wouldn't call it shitty... better than what you or I would be able to make and is good enough for 95% of users.

H100i is much much better. Since money doesn't seem like an issue mine as well go for it and run fans slower.

Ok you have a point. I think i will take a look for a cheap h100(i)
And see if that works out. I also need to get some low profile fans since my case is a little tight with 240 rad's. But it should fit.

What case do you have?

Lower profile fans and the H100(i) don't really mix well...

I have an(here it comes) Carbide 300R. yeah i know it's a tiny case. But i ship my computer around more then once a week.(lan-party's)
However. It seems that the RAM slots are just a bit lower than i tought. So i think the normal fans will fit. I will do a quick test fit with my 240 rad from my other desktop.(Custom watercooled one:))

Better off with an H80i and normal fans than a H100i with skinny fans tbh, plus it would help with keeping positive pressure and therefore less dust.

Yeah the 300r isnt made for the H100i matey. You need a case too tbh.

Low profile fans are a waste of time and will be mega noisey
