Hi all,

Hopefully my system will show in my signature below. I have never overclocked a PC before, but i purchased the RAM as i thought my motherboard could handle the 2666mhz. But when i open CPU-Z its only running at 666MHz can anyone tell me why?

Thank you

You need to set it manually in the BIOS.
Change the settings to XMP and it should go to 2666mhz if your CPU can manage that.

Also, in CPU-z, as DDR is double data rate, the value is doubled - ie - 666mhz is actually 1333mhz.
So if you do get it to 2666mhz, it'll actually show as 1333mhz in CPU-z

you just have to try it
if it doesn't work your pc won't boot / won't be stable
then just reset bios / clear cmos

Just set it to 2666mhz in the BIOS (or XMP).

Boot the PC and chances are if it boots it will be fine. To make sure, I'd run something like Prime95 for a couple of hours.

It won't damage the CPU at all if that's what you're worring about.

Well the above seems to have worked an CPU-z is showing 1333MHz like you said :)

Thank you for your help.

PS. Do you think it is worth looking into overclocking my CPU with the Corsair H55?

See if you can get it to 4ghz without a volt increase, my 3570k only needs like 0.01 volt increase to get that speed, which prettymuch keeps it on the same temps as stock. Ofcourse you could overclock further but it will also put a bigger strain on the memory controller and it may be needed that you lower the memory frequency to keep everything stable.

you have to choose. ram OC or cpu. i would go with cpu. even 100mhz is better than all the ram speed you can get
