Controlling a DDC 18W Pump

Would it be possible/has anyone done it using a fan controller?
I'm looking at the Lamptron FC6 (20Watts per channel)

Cheers

Yup,That will work,i would say get a FC5 30w if you can tho.
The FC6 isnt that great,i popped a channel with just 4 fans on it.
My FC5 was a lot better, ran with a D5 on a channel for the last year or so with no problems.

FC5's in black are in short supply.
Can you suggest any alternatives that are going to be of similar quality.
Thanks for the reply by the way.

Edit: Ignore that just managed to find a "last" one on amazon for a reasonable price as well.
Cheers

So its safe to say that running a 18W MCP 655-B (No speed controller dial) on an FC5V2 (30W/c) will effectively turn it into a variable speed pump similar to the MCP 655? And also on that line, is it safe? Any chance of shorting or burning anything out?

Thanks for the quick reply Lee.

If I were to plug it onto a FC, it will get up to "setting 5"? Or is it capped from 1-4? Also does the new 655-PWM version carry any other improvements other than the PWM control? flow rate, head pressure? Was thinking of picking one up as I thought that I would be stuck with my 655-B being unable to adjust the speed. Thanks again Lee!

Hi James,
I'm just trying to figure out what you're asking.
When you say will you get it up to setting 5 do you mean will you be able to fully utilise the pump on the fan controller, if so then I would say yes as the fan controller will allow you to put the full 12v/1.5 Amps through the motor.
Second bit about the 655 PWM might cause you more of a headache though.
The information I can find about the 655 pumps is that the 655B is stated as being 24 Watts which the fan controller "should" be able to cope with, the PWM specs are up at 37 Watts which is outside the stated operating range of the fan controller.
I'm using a pair of 18 Watt DDC's on mine without any issue which is why I can say that 18 Watt pumps will be fine, B NEGATIVE stated that D5's run without problem at 24 Watts on the V5 controller. I think that the 37 Watts of the PWM might be a push too far, but without extensive testing I couldn't say for sure. I would advise sticking the right side of 30 Watts on the V5 fan controller though. I think Lamptron do higher power fan controllers but I believe these are switched rather than variable.

Hey Lee,

My apologies for that rather confusing post, I even got confused myself after reading it  . What I was trying to say is whether I would be able to gain full control of a 655B with a fan controller achieving the same maximum and minimum output potential the 655 has.

Also with the PWM version, does it have similar head pressure/flow ratings as the 655?

The PWM version is identical except for the PWM control.
You have full speed control with a fan controller.
The 37 watts quoted is,i believe,the 24v draw.
I have 2 D5's at 24v and they draw 37w also.
