Computer turns off

how do i clear the cmos?

To be honest i think it might be my motherboard. When i look in the back, the ETHERNET light does not seem to be on or flickering or anything, and when i look at my keyboard, the lights or anything don't turn on either, when they should be.

You see that lithium (or whatever it is) battery on your motherboard? Next to that there should be a set of 3 pins with a jumper over 2 of them (a side and the middle one). Move that jumper over so that it is on the other side pin and the center pin, wait for like, 30 seconds, then switch it back. That should clear the CMOS. This is of course done with the computer powered down and PSU turned off.

i did a 10 minute cmos clear, made no difference,

right now im freaking out, i dont no what to do

i bougght this motherbaord from NCIX, do i RMA it?

i dont udnerstand what happened, nothng has changed, i just reseated the CPU and the HEATSINK, thats it :'(

Have you sorted out the display problem yet?

If you're not getting anything on the screen, and you were before, then I'd definately check and double check the graphics card is seated properly.

Also, check to see the gpu's fan is spinning. If not, it'll shut the computer down when it gets hot eg during games & 3dmark 06

yea i reseated the graphics card and nothing has changed, as i said before, i think it might be the mobo, cuz even the backlight on the Ethernet port isn't on

im freakin out right now

When you dont get a display in boot up does the mobo beep at all? That can tell you what component the mobo is having problems with.

No beeps at all.

I popped in my old CPU the 3500+, and she booted right up.

Here is everything in detail. Hope you can help.

The 0502 bios i installed was installed when i got this new motherboard, back in march. I popped in the X2 a week ago, or thursday, and she booted fine, i reset the bios to defaults and it was all recognized. After a restart of the computer, system said it needed to reboot, i noticed it was running a bit slugish, so i installed the dual core optimizer. Then, i wanted to test my games, i opened css, and gamed fine for an hour, then i opened COH and my system shut down. Oddly, i tried other games and it worked fine. i then tried to open it again and it worked. Later that day i opened 3dmark06 and my computer shut off again.

I then noticed my idle temps were 40 and load were 50's, so i decided to reseat my Heatsink. By doig so i removed both of them, gave it a nice wipe down, and then put some as5 and hooked her back up. I proceeded to press the on button, computer turns on, but nothing goes to the moniter. I then reseat memory, graphics card, and the CPU again. Cleared CMOS, nothing happened. I then decide to see what would happen if i installed my 3500+, i installed it, cleared the CMOS and she booted right up. Now, im at the stage of, my psu couldnt handle it? Hardware problems? i dont no.

i hope that is enough detail.

Thanks guys.

Well, if it boots up perfectly with the other CPU, then I would say you got a bad X2.

If you bought it from NCIX and got the ExpressRMA package during checkout, you might be able to get a new one from them. If not, try an RMA through AMD.

Im gonna try popping it back in and seeing what happens, if it doesn't boot again, i shall try the RMA.

I got it from Tigerdirect.ca

and i can't RMA cuz its an OEM chip

hi everyone, i just replaced my amd 3500+ with a amd x2 3800+ processor, before the upgrade everything was fine and it was going well, but now, when im gaming or opening 3dmark06, my computer sometimes just turns off.

it has happened twice now.

when installing the heatsink, it wasn't going on properly before, so i was pushing a bit hard on the cpu, you think its broken? games play perfect when it doesnt turn off. im scared, i checked the PSU cable and it is securly in place. Quick responses would be amazing!

thanks guys!

thats whats happening to me....but hey i bent 27% of my pins by accident and then fixed it to fit....sound like a loose contact.....

i myself re-installed windows and the problem went awaay.....don't reccomend that course of action though
