Cloning Mac OSX to use in my rig

Hi,

I don't know if this would be possible, but i have just built my rig and installed windows 7 on it, it's super fast but missing that apple touch i get from my macbook pro.

I was wondering if i were to buy an SSD and external enclosure, then go onto cloning my macbook pro HDD onto the SSD, can i now use this SSD in my rig as it would be a fully bootable drive?

My rig is as follows:

Core i7 sandybridge-e 3820

MSI big bang xpower II motherboard

32gb ram

MSI twin frozr II gtx580 GPU

2 x SSD RAID0 (with windows 7 installed)

1 x 1tb 7200rpm HDD

My macbook pro 2010 is as follows:

Core i7 2.66ghz

8gb ram

Geforce GT330M GPU

500gb HDD

In theory this should work right? so long as i make my rig boot the cloned Mac OSX SSD boot first?

Just wanted opinions as to whether this would work or am i missing something?

Thanks,

It's all do-able, just a question of clearing out the old drivers that relate to the mbp and get the new ones on.

Tbh with you, it'd be a heck of alot easier to backup your shizzle and re-install on the new.

Yeh I did some research and they all mention new installs. It's just that there are so many mac osx versions I don't know what to get. Would a lion upgrade version work?

Plus there is alot of processing to do when doing a new install, something I have not done before so I'm trying to get my head around all the procedures!

You can use the Apple migration tool once you have a fresh install that is working, it will import all your apps and docs from the hard drive of your laptop.... Just stick the laptop drive in a external usb case...
