Hi I want to clean my pc and was wondering if I could take of the fan from my gpu and reattach it without using termal paste. I have a zotac NVidia 9500gt. Never cleaned the gpu thoroughly. I cleaned the pc December last
If this is your card you can see two small silver screws on the heatsink shroud near the PCIe slot. If you unscrew those the top shroud covering the heatsink will remove allowing you to thoroughly clean the heatsink and fan. I recommend using a can of compressed air and a average sized soft dry paintbrush.

err just to chime in, don't take that off and clean it if you're not putting new thermal paste on, or if you're planning on putting it on without any...

The way Vicey described it he'd just be taking the shroud off, not the actual heatsink. It's quite easy cleaning the heatsink without a shroud, even if it's still stuck to the card

The cooling assembly on the card is in two parts, the heatsink which he won't be removing and a shroud which is screwed on to the heatsink which he will remove. He won't need to apply new thermal paste as he won't be removing the heatsink from the GPU die.
